I’m doing a complete front brake system replacement on my ’06 and I’d like to pick some brains of anyone who has done this mod. I’m putting on Braking Wave Rotors (front and rear) I have also purchased a set of ’05 gsxr 1000 calipers that I will put on the beast. I have been in contact with a very helpful distributor for Goodridge brake control components that will assemble custom brake lines for me. The only item I have not acquired yet is a master cylinder/lever assembly. I am leaning toward the gsxr 1000 assembly because I can purchase a pazzo lever for it to match the pazzo lever I have on the clutch side. The magura cylinder/lever assy is definitely a nice unit but pazzo doesn’t make a lever to fit that unit so I’m gonna go with a gsxr master cylinder/lever assy.

Has anyone fitted one of the gsxr mc/levers to their steed ? If so, which year gsxr 1000 is the best one to pluck an mc/lever assy from to use on my S3 ? I’m wondering if the form/fit/function of one year is superior to any other year. Perhaps the piston diameter of the newer gsxr master cylinders is larger than the piston diameter of previous years which would make the newer ones a wiser choice.

Bunch of people. do a search on this site with the bottom page search (not the sidebar one that finds nothing).

2005/2006 GSX-R 1000 is the best. They were designed to work with the K5/K6 Tokicos from the start and they do this very well. 2006 750 should be 1:1, but I have not confirmed this myself.

No idea about K7. K5/K6 is the safe bet on eBay. Also when ordering brake lines, pay close attention to how the top banjos exit the m/cyl. If you do not use the K6 m/cyl banjo slot, but end up mounting the banjos a bit further up front, the lever movement space becomes pretty tight. I ended up grinding a bit off the lever just to play things safe, so the lever will not catch on the banjos when braking.

K5/K6 1000 and K6/7 600/750 are Radial design - better option.
