I have the baffle in right now with the spot weld, but I'd like to see how the bike sounds and feels with it out. Is it possible to put the baffle back in and not have it launch out of the can with just the C-clip? Right now I feel like I've lost some low-end grunt, but overall the bike runs MUCH smoother now with the full system.

i say just knock the sucker out. once i did i loved the way it sounds. baffle in you dont hear any difference really, its like a tors. i doubt theres a way to safely put it back in on a temporary kind of basis but i could easily be wrong.

Ollie North in the HOUSE!
In short the answer is yes it's possible, yes it's easy to do.
I have been informed linking helpful posts from other sites is not allowed.... Sorry!

Here's the info I had linked:
Quote:
An internal snap-ring pliers may be all you need.
However some (mine included) had a spot weld binding the baffle to the can (I think it was at the 12 o'clock position roughly). You may need to remove the snap ring to see it, and definitely need it out prior to drilling.
I drilled mine with a 3/8" bit just enough so I could break it free. Came apart very easy then.
Good Luck!
Edit: Just saw your post "over there(TRAT)".
I think the snap ring ought to be more than enough to hold the baffle in. It seemed VERY stout when I was taking it out!

This was the reason I was given:

Mate I`ve been through this with a couple of others. If the other forum is such a good forum it shouldn`t need to send people out recruiting and shouldn`t need to use triumphrat.net as it`s noticeboard. I don`t go over to the speedtriple.com and try and entice members over to trat and I`d expect the same respect in return, which MOST of the people that left here are showing. I`m asking you nicely, not to post any more links to other sites. Thankyou.
The split has happened, it was nothing to do with me, I`d suggest you move on with your life, you`ll be a lot happier.

As a side note I was not, am not, and will not be a recruiter for another site..... My appologies if anyone took it as such!
And BTW I moved on a long time ago, otherwise I wouldn't be here...

Thankyou for your feedback, dfib. My apologies for insinuating you were 'recruiting' for another forum. Just in case anyone missed this in another thread here it is again. Hopefully this will clear up where we stand.
Contrary to popular belief, I GENUINELY hope the other site is a huge success, anything that unites speedy owners or Triumph riders in general is a good thing. I`m fairly sure that most of the people who are members here visit there too. I think it`s great.
Both of these online communities for S3 owners are markedly different, not least because of their layout and AUP policy. I think it`s important to maintain that difference so if one site isn`t suitable for it`s members, then they have a valid alternative. Horses for courses.
If anyone wants to copy n`paste content from topics there to here in a new posting, they are most welcome, it only takes a few seconds, however a direct link to topics on other forums, which is basically a thinly veiled invitation to "come and discuss it over here instead" is not contributing to triumphrat.net and the posts will get deleted.
If you would rather discuss a topic on a different forum, that`s fine but you can hardly expect triumphrat.net to advertise it for you, any more than you can expect your wife to drive you over to your mistresses' house because you`d rather be getting it on with her, instead!
:-D :-D

If I'm not too late to tip you off kuhlka try to use a long drill bit and protect the send of the silencer with a towel or other protection; gaffer tape etc. Mine drill bit was "just" long enough. Its easy to let the chuck touch the outer edge of the silencer end and then you might have unsightly marks. If you have a centre punch thats helps the drill bite in the right place. It'll stop the bit from skidding around finding grip. A bit like a bald tyre on a wet road I guess.
Once the weld is gone you can pop the baffle in and out as often as you like with a pair of long nose pliers. I altered the tips of the pliers to make it even easier.
Here in the UK some Constabularys dont appreciate loud bikes so I carry the baffle with me in my bum bag. If your Bobbies are not bothered I guarantee once you have it out you wont want it back in.
My mates say that the love following the S3 as it sounds the bizz, angry barking dog, Spitfire Merlin engine are just a few. All I can say is it sounds great.
Go for it and enjoy.

Lol! I've heard my wife tell guys that her **** don't get in the way of her working on bikes and cars, but I don't think I've ever heard that one before.
Good idea on keeping the baffle in a bag. I don't think Texas has a noise code for bikes, although they might have general noise ordinance laws in specific towns (Plano? Frisco?). I guess I'll have to wait and see. Had a cop try and pull me over the other day, but he got caught at a red light I had just passed through on yellow. Lucky me. Gotta let my heat level go down to 1 or no stars before I venture out again. 'Trouble' makes me do bad things.
On another note, stop hijacking my thread with poodoo, other people! I doubt newbies to this or the other site are going to understand or care about posting links. If using the cut'n'paste option will take care of future deletions, then whatever. Move on.
Btw, I got the baffle out after 3 broken drill bits. I won't be using 'quick release' drill bits that use a special chuck anymore. Two of them just broke loose in their sleeve and are worthless. The other snapped in half. POS Dewalt.
