Taking out the gas take one of the dry brakes broke. It was really crappy plastic and I learned of a recall on my year. Called them up, spoke with Peter and he checked and said that my VIN already had the recall done. I was amazed and told him how flimsy these were and instead of doing what EVERY other company would do and tell me the recall had be done, deal with it, Peter not only said that he woud look in to it and see why they broke (I am sending back the pieces for him to check) but to see if they had actually been replaced, etc. He knew ALL about the recall without looking info up AND since it is a federally mandated recall he can't reiumburse me for the cost of the metal ones I am replacing them with so he OFFERED to send me something of equal value FROM THEIR CATALOG!

I could not believe it. What a stand up company and such a helpful representative. I chose simply the carbon fiber tank pad since I'm getting my tank painted and need a new one and since it was my choice to go with metal so I didn't want to go overboard on what I got.

Wow... I think they won a customer for life.

That's really cool. What is a dry brake?

Connection on the side of the gas tank that "brakes dry" when you disconnect them. Both fuel lines have them so you can disconnect them without fuel spilling out all over the place. In essence when they are disconnected the valve is closed.

Presumably a connect that closes the hose when breaking the connection to prevent leaks.

Yes, it's great to hear a good news story about Triumph customer service. Not because it doesn't happen, but obviously because the brickbats are usually louder than the bouquets!!! Great to hear they have the bouquets as well.

You REALLY lucked out because the part you broke was not covered by the recall - only the MALE plastics were replaced under the recall, not the female dry-breaks.

when mine broke a couple years back -- I went to the dealer with a copy of the recall and they gave me some song and dance about the recall not being supported at the dealers yet. :hammer:

That's a good story. I'm sure there's more good ones out there, but like welshrob said, you hear the bad ones more than the good ones.

On that note, I have a good one too. When my S3 showed up last month the tank had a bit of crate damage where something was rubbing on it and ruffed up the left tank paint, a week later the new tank was on and looked great. since about 4 weeks has passed and I finally got around to removing those tacky front reflectors, in doing this I noticed that towards the bottom of the fork tube some more scratches rubbed off a patch of gold anodize which looked like some more crate damage. Very noticeable in the sun. Took it back late last week (4 weeks since I bought it) and now with no complaints from Triumph it is in the shop getting a new fork tube put on as I am typing.

Outstanding customer care IMHO. :-D
