Just bought a brand new '04 S3 and was wondering what others out there are paying for service and the recommended mileage intervals they were told. Curious as to how much others have paid for thier 500 mile break-in service.

Have alwyas owned used bikes and done most of the service myself............would prefer the first few services on this new bike be done by those who know!!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ken

Congrats, Ken! The first service basically amounts to an oil change, so I did it myself. I am thinking of doing the same at the next interval (6K) coming up soon. But I may just take it in and have them do it along with the fuel connector recall. I did ask the cost of the 6k service and was told about $120. 12K is the first valve check/adjustment although I think they are mostly still in spec at that mileage.

What color did you get?

I paid $170..and that was w/o the ***** oil change at North County Yamaha...and they took 4 days to do it...LAST time I'm going there again.

Taking her to Rocket Motorcycles off of Morena Blvd tomorrow for her 6K service, told me $155 and they should have it in and out in one day.

RED of course!!! I would normally do the service myself (hate taking anything to a mechanic) but this is my first "brand new" bike and I think I might let the dealer do the first few services. Where I bought it they only deal with triumphs, been in business 10 yrs and they did seem to know what they were talkin about (at least compared to some of the other dealers I went to.......sheesh kinda scary that I felt like I knew more then they did).

Anyways, thanks for the info!!

ken, one thing you might want to research is warranty issues. You might have to have it serviced at a dealer in order to maintain the warranty. i've heard some companies will void your warranty if you do the work yourself (in other words can't show proof of proper service intervals). I have no idea what triumph is like when it comes to this. it could be bulls#@t but look into it anyway...

anyone know for sure?

tradedinmyharley,

Excellent point. Not sure where Triumph stands regarding that. Anyways, I think I am going to have the first 2 years of service done at the dealer. i just wanted to make sure I don't get taken for a ride since I normally don't take any of my vehicles to mechanics for service unless I absolutley have to.

Haven't dealt with Triumph products before and was just curious as to what ohter's have spent for thier services......500 mile, 6000 mile & 12,000 mile.

Thanks for the input!!

I don't blame ya for having the dealer do it while under warranty. I would too but the dealer is 110 miles away so it's a bit of a pain. I did ask about the warranty thing as regards the 500 mile service and they told me as long as I used "recommended" oil there wouldn't be a problem.

The 6K service calls for "check this, check that" kinda stuff so I'll probably take it in just in case there are any problems in the future that could be blamed on not having a dealer "check this, check that". :-D

Congrats on the RED '04...best looking S3 ever. But I could be a little biased...

beers2u,

I understand about the distance thing to the dealer. Plus I really don't want to spend money for a service I can do myself. If other then change the oil, the 500 mile service is just a routine check of the basics on the bike, I might just save the money and do it myself. Hell on my old CB750 I had to do "routine" checks of everything all the time just to keep her going!!!!!

So what is the recommended oil????

Thanks for the congrats................Nothing wrong with being a little biased either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
