I have '99 speed triple with standard mount Yoshimura. I have checked into high mount and low mount shorty slip-ons. Prices are a little bit out of my range--read too much for a 2" hole through a cone. Have any of you riders tried one of the sewer pipe exhaust tips used by the import car kids? I'm thinking of removing slip-on and mid pipe and install one of these obnoxious end pieces. Do these engines require back pressure for max power? Thanks for input.

I remember Devious saying that back pressure is NEVER good on a 4 stroke engine. Not for max power nor torque.

I've always been told that you need a certain amount of back pressure for torque, and i proved that with the exhausts i made.Tried it without back pressure, reduced torque.Kept adding back pressure, got the torque i needed. :hammer:

As far as my knowledge of physics go:

Backpressure itself will not help BUT if reflection of pressure wave comes back to exhoustvalve whith low pressure when it opens up, gas will be released easier, this will result in better torque. So in theory the best is to have no backpressure but make advantage of high/low pressurewaves.. That is why some bikes have a connection between headers from different cylinders...
As for the intake it's the other way around, an airbox, turbo or other charger will generate more pressure, so when inletvalve opens, more air in cylinder.

I might be wrong though :-D

Actually, you need a bit of a restriction from a header in order to increase exhaust velocity, not backpressure. And, if you're creative, you can take advantage of power pulses to create a negative pressure at the exhaust port like Buster said.

These guys do a pretty good job of explaining the whole deal:

Backpressure and You!
