So I just picked up a black 06 s3 this weekend, its an incredible bike, everything is so incredibly effortless! I am coming from a throughly modded 01 ducati 900ss so to say it is a different machine would be a huge understatement. For anyone who has ridden one you know that not only do they have the notoriously ridiculously hard clutch lever, but the most extreme riding position of any bike I have ever sat on.

So to the point of the post, I did not get the owners manual when I bought it and I have absolutely no clue how to take off the seat :???:

I found the key hole, however it does not seem to unlock anything, and the last thing I want to do is break something.

Thanks guys!

Push down on the seat while turning the key counter-clockwise. Mine was uber tight when I first got it, it has loosened a bit now. :-D

Turn the key while lifting up the back of the seat, then slide it back. The first few times it will be stiff, but it gets easier with time.

Mine was a ***** and a half to use until I liberally coated the latch and pin with some white lithium grease. Now it operates normally.

Oh, and if you can't get it working, more torque on the key is definitely not the answer. I put about a 20 degree twist on one of my keys once in a fit of rage. I'm lucky I didn't snap it off as I was about 100 miles away from my spare.

put the key in that seatlock on the left side of the subframe, while turning the key, firmly push down on the back/right quadrant of the top of the pillion seating area. That push down is important and needed to free the seat frame from the latch; the seat should pop right up after that..

There is a little black round washer that sits on the post that is just a bit too thick. Take that thing off and you will never have a problem with the seat again. If you get a seat cowl you will need to take the washer off because getting the seat on and off will almost become impossible without pushing down really hard on the cowl, which is a no no.

Have fun,

Haha that was odd, had to take off the seat cowl then it just popped out, the key was only turning 1/3 the distance it should have.

And I'm not too impressed by the "trunk". The only thing I ever kept in my "trunk" was the catch after going fishing (park rangers would let me in for free!) so looks like now ive gotta put them in my backpack...

Oh explination, I am a college student and avid fisherman, and I dont have a cage.

Thanks guys!

That was exactly me, 28 years ago, except that I had a real ugly trunk on the back of my Yam 750 to keep fish and gear in.
