I have had an SW Motech centre stand sitting in my garage now for 6 months. Has anyone fitted one and
A. how easy was it to fit? and
B. does it work or cause any problems?

I wanted it for ease of chain maintinence but I might just buy an Abba stand instead as the fitting instructions are might as well be in Klingon.

There used to be photos on that link, guess they have been taken down. The hardest part is figuring out the placement of the two mounting plates. I had to look really closely at the directions and at the parts & the bike a few times to figure it out. Once you do that it is really quite simple. I needed some help the second time around 'cuz I couldn't torque the bolts with my recently busted collar bone. Call me a wimp.

The stand works well and there are no interference or dragging issues. The only down side is it takes a bit more effort to lift the bike up onto the stand than some OE stands. If it were just a bit shorter it would still pick the bike up enough and you wouldn't have to lift as much.

Did you support the main bulk of the bike with blocks while you dismantle the rear suspension or can it be done on the side stand?
I have this terrible image of unbolting something and the whole lot collapsing on my head.

It is not difficult and can be done with the bike on the sidestand. You need the T55 torx wrench and some blue loctite. The two black plates are side sensitive. At first glance they look identical but they are shaped differently and are different lengths. If you look at the instruction page you can see which side goes where. Don't ask me how I know this. The instruction page is simple because the job is simple. You will love it after it is fitted!

I've always wondered if the spring is hard to stretch to where it needs to attach. Do you need a special spring-stretcher thing?

Just use a long Phillips screw driver to give you some leverage. Hook the spring over the screw driver and stretch out the spring then slip the hook down the shaft and onto the stand. Very easy.

Also, many people use the stock nuts and bolts where appropriate. Just depends if the stockers are long enough to go through the plates and engage the nuts fully.

Yup. I used the stock bolts wherever I could as they seemed to be higher quality. The only one that didn't fit was that LH engine lug. As others have said, it's a pretty simple job once you figure out where the parts go.
