its mostly a drunken affair...going from pub to pub and you get a card or a stamp at each place...most often a harley thing...not that much fun IMO

Usedta be drunken barhops. Not so much these days, as they're often respectable fundraisers for charities and the like. Our local PD is sponsoring one at the end of this month. I'll probably ride it.

Basically, it's a ride along a prescribed route with stopping points along the way (usually five). At each stop, you get a card.

At the end of the ride, the person with the best poker hand usually wins some kind of prize.

IMO, it kinda sucks, I've been to one, and only because I hosted it to raise $$$ for the family of one of my lost riding buddies. The only enjoyment I got out of it was the fact that we raised some money for the family. I was the leader of the ride, and a couple of times I got up to around 50 mph and was leaving everyone behind. You have to ride slow, VERY SLOW!!! Anyways, it's alright for some decent biker fellowship, and atleast most of the time, it's fer a good cause. You can read about mine here-----> cheap's poker run

I've never been on a Poker Run before, they don't particularly interest me, but they can be modified for the group based on the group's riding habits. For instance, they are popular at BMW rallies. Now, BMW riders generally like long sport touring rides. A poker run at a BMW rally may cover several hundred miles, traveling down some cool roads with the stops at historic sites or sites of interest. I could get into that. OTOH, a Harley poker run in town probably covers more bars than miles. Not my thing.

Poker runs are usually exactly that - five stops on a route, pick up a card at each stop, best hand at the end of the run wins a prize. They can be fun, but are usually boring H-D barhops (what we used to call a pub crawl).

I've done car rallies where you're given a set of directions and clues - a sort of scavenger hunt. These rallies are usually TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) and the team closest to the prescribed time and distance wins, with bonus/penalty points for solving the clues/picking up items (what color is the sign on your right?, collect an embossed napkin). This kind of rally could work for two-up tourers, but not S3s.

Our pack is off on one next week.
Just to clarify.
We simply folk in Wales uk are blessed with many castles and our poker run is going to be based around the castles.

The idea is that we ride to a number of castles and pick up a card, at the last castle you can change up to 2 cards. On getting back to the pub (end of run) the bike with the best hand wins the prize (think its a night with Angoline Jolie) but will probably be a Triumph watch presented by our dealer.
Quite looking forward to it really.
