It came in on the truck from Florida yesterday - a white 2006 SP3 with 1500 miles on it - Instant luv brothers! - Drove it around an old closed down Mall lot for about an hour - was fantastic - all everyone has said and more - however - with all the snow melt here it got very wet and dirty - can you gently spray this off a car wash? Silly question probably - but anyhoo....school me!

Try and avoid the high pressure washers, especially around the spark plug leads.Hose pressure and a bit of elbow grease is normally best.Oh and welcome to the asylum. :-D :hammer:

I can't remember what color my S3 is cause it's soo dirty. Washing bikes is like washing dishes, I make my wife do it!
(That's why its dirty). I never use a blast of water from the hose, just wet sponges with car soap. I don't want to push dirt where its not 'post to be. I never use harsh degreasers either or special bike cleaners. I always wax the paint after I wash it, it doesn't take long-- a plus for naked bikes.

I asked a question like this a while back, and everyone agreed it was best to wash it with beer.

I would wash it with a sponge and good car wash soap, not dishwashing soap. As stated above I would avoid high pressure washers too.

I use the same thing I use to clean my truck, dishes, clothes, toilet, floor, etc. Dawn! No - not that harsh dishwashing detergent - my wife. Also works great for mowing the grass, changing tires, fetching beer, etc.

And before anyone else says it - yes I wake up at the crack of Dawn every morning. ;-)

OK - seriously - don't any one let her know I said this or she won't let me go riding this weekend.

Mr Clean auto dry and a soft cloth for scrubbin'. Wash speedy in the shade, do the auto dry rinse cycle and push her into the sun to speed up the drying process. Once you start seeing spots it's time to change out the filter. The initial filter you get is good for about 4~5 washes. The replacement filter is larger and has gone for 8 so far. I'll bring it to 10 this weekend when I finally wash both my bikes... For polishin' I use Protect All (spray can) which I purchased at the local bike shop. It's great for touch up jobs too. I use Plexus on the instrument cluster, lights, and windscreen on my Kawi. Make sure to use clean rags when cleaning... you don't want to rub road grime into the paint :hammer: .

i switch between kerosene and soapy water. i use water for a rinse after a few coastal rides, and i'll use kerosene for general clean up. works pretty dang well.
