i went to go detach the radiator cowls in an attept to paint them black(the fastest color) instead of the clunky grey they are. but, i noticed the lights seem like they run all the way through the bike and its not an easy take off. is there a trick or quick way/suggestion to get them off. i really dont want to do a tape off paint job and leave them on.

Two options:
1- remove the tank and airbox, unplug the turn signal wiring from the harness.

2- Take the signals apart and pull the wires out - gently, but firmly.

I hope this helps.

I took my cowls off last Monday to get them powder coated matte black. The easiest method is to disassmeble the turn signal and pull the wires through the stem. You can push them back through pretty easy and reattach the turn signals to the radiator without the cowls. That way, you can ride the bike while the parts are being painted/powder coated. I also took off the silver triangular guards behind the footpegs and heat shields over the cans. All are getting powder coated matte black at Arizona Powder Coat on Washington St...6 parts in all for $20.

You forgot the one that will poke your eye when you mount your all new black stuff on: the triangular left side engine mount.
