I tried a search but ended up empty handed...
I'm looking at picking up a 1050 S-3. Does anyone tour on one and have any advice? Anyone have any luggage solutions? How is the seat and the fuel range? I'd like to see any pictures that you have of your bikes all set up. Why would I tour on an S-3? Because up until now I've been doing it on Ninjas, the Superhawk and the S2R (which works surprisingly well)....and I love the new 1050!

I find it super comfortable - it really is the perfect all around bike.

You may find the stock seat a bit uncomfortable after a while. I bought a Corbin, which is nice for those long days. I got a Bags Connection "Engage Sport" tank bag for the longer trips. I strap a backpack to the Speedy (ironic, I know)at the moment for the remaining storage, though I am looking for something designed for a rear seat. I won't try to do any kind of pannier setup. And if I want to do any two-up touring, I will get an additional bike like a Sprint, Tiger, etc. The stock fuel range is about 160 miles +/- with fairly sane riding.

I just read your entire trip report and i must say good work! My girlfriend and I took almost that exact trip this year only we left from chicago and ended in CA. Saw the corn palace, badlands, mt rushmore, yellowstone, grand tetons, etc. It was great and we plan on going again this summer!

Update: I went to the local BMW dealer to look at Rev'it gear and the BMW back protector (which I bought), and they had a waterproof BMW brand duffle that looked like the ticket. Then, a guy showed me another line of waterproof storage (made locally apparently) that looked real nice. Ugly, but real functional basic storage. And they are real waterproof. Rated for SCUBA use, supposedly. I am going to take speedy down there to fit them both to see which, if any, works the best. I would've ridden today, but no headlights at the moment.

Thanks. I did. I was quite pumped when they were released as it is another practical bike that I want to like. Just like other great practical bikes like the V-Strom, the Multistrada, or the VFR I recently added to the garage, it doesn't quite do it for me. My VTR1000 and Ducati S2R DO! I really think the S3-1050 is one that will DO.
