Ok, I'm a idiot.
Just got my new s3, 170 miles on her. I forget to remove my disc lock after work today and start to ride away. Well I got about two feet, the front tire locked up, and down I went on my right side. I broke the right turn signal, and scratched up what I think is the oil cover.
Couple of questions:
1) The turn signal still works, but the mirrory plastic, and the clear plastic cover is smashed. Who carries parts to replace these?
2) On the pictures below, I have a nice road rash scratch in the flat black paint, about the size of a half dollar in the oil cover. Is there a way to just smooth out the scratch and re-paint? If not, how hard is it to buy a new cover and replace?
Please note that I have about as much mechanical talent as a gopher.
Thanks!
burrben
PS: I should note, this isn't my bike. I have a all black beauty, I just stole this for illustration!

Sorry to hear this mate, I sympathise with you. If it was me I would order new parts as the bike is so new. Any Triumph dealer can get the parts for you. Other than that you can get heat resistant paint for the engine casing.
Get the new parts you will not be sorry.

I used sand paper and black satin paint on mine, in a can from home depot. Try, if ya don't like it buy a new one.

Sorry man, that blows. You should be able to get a new case cover from your dealer, as well as a turn signal, if it's OEM. If not, there are some really cool sites out the dedicated to aftermarket S3 goodies.
Like this one:

Good luck. Oh, and there are some real technical whizzes on this forum to help if you need.

good reason not to use one them d@mn locks!
a good number of people on this forum have had their bike on it's side. not the end of world. i'd say forget about those big ol stock signals and upgrade!!!! there's many many places to get aftermarket turn signals if your not stuck on the stock ones???
as far as the casing, take a couple of different grades of sandpaper to it starting from rough to go to....less rough (but be gentle on the creased spots so as not to change the orginal shape). can get varous grades at an auto parts store. tape of the particular area with masking tape and some plastic around that so overspray doesn't go everywhere. paint with a BLACK SATIN heat resistant paint. FYI, somebody, i forget who actually tested the temperature when i raised the question a few month ago. it actually doesn't get that hot. PJ1 makes a decent match called "PJ1 Engine and Case Paint : Satin Black". google it and you'll find it. i ordered some from Dennis Kirk. note, PJ1 makes a bunch of paints that sound similar and DK's website is not exactly accurate on all descriptions so call and make them swear it's the right one. they had to send me two but i ended up getting one free.
it works as will most heat resistant SATIN BLACKS. see bike pic below. i have pics of the orig parts, sanded parts, taped off parts, and the final ones somewhere around here if you REALLY want um.
or you could order a new one but if you do you'll inevitably drop it again (or at least i would).

All parts can be ordered from your dealer.
As for the clutch cover..touchup paint/spray, I used a satin-black from the local automotive supply store. Sand it if you must but likely unnecessary.
If you can wait a week or so some parts 'bikebadit.com' is alway a source for you to order what you need if you want to bypass the dealer. No cost saving though.

Hey burrben,
i know how you feel. a couple of years ago i did the
same thing on my monster 750. i approached my
bike to find a small crowd all looking it over. when
they realized i was the owner the questions started
to pour in: what kind of bike is that? what year is it?
it looks so cool..and so on. So i decided it would be
cool to really show them how fast i could take off.
needless to say with all the attention i was getting
i forgot to remove the disc lock.
I popped the clutch, jammed on the throttle, and took
off like a banshee, well almost.
I got about 4 feet and the bike stopped dead. i had such
forward monentum going that i ended up going clean over the bars, doing a complete mid air forward flip, coming
down on my ass about 6 feet in front of the bike!
i don't know what was hurt more, my bike, my ass, or
my ego. all i know is all three took a beating.
I had been riding bikes since i was 13 and never had
done something so f**in retarded!
I got home and threw the disc lock in the trash...i suggest
you do the same.
and have fun on your new steez bro!!!

Absolutely at least try to fix it before you buy a new one. Jdub3 laid out the basic plan of attack. It'll save you a bunch, you'll be proud of youself, and you'll know what to do next time. YES, there WILL be a next time.
About the lock. If you can't get the retractable/springy cable that attaches to the lock and around your trottle, steal a "scrunchy" from the wife/girlfriend/kid and keep it with the lock. Everytime you put the lock on put the scrunchy (or whetever) around the throttle and brake lever. Just a little friendly riminder.
