Have an '01 S3 and ran out of gas. The fuel light is nearly invisible when in direct sun. Anyone replace the bulb with something brighter?

While on this topic, how about the replacement of all the indicator lights with something brighter?

Seems to me since it's directionally facing our (ahem) faces, then an LED would work well... anyone try this?

I'd be interested in redoing the whole cluster with LEDs but don't know what's inside, could be an interesting winter project for me though.

Yes, the sun is a problem. I zero my trip meter at each fill up. When I get to 280kms, I fill up, whether the fuel warning light is on or not. Much safer, I hate pushing :-D

I've had the cluster off my 99 S3 to replace some bulbs. No point in getting anything too much brighter. I think the originals were 1.5 watt, I put 3 watt in because that was all I could get locally.

LEDs may well work, if there is no more heat than that of a 3 watt standard bulb. On other makes I've seen the bulb housing and plastics melt away because the globe was too strong and got too hot.
