Just found a lowmounted muffler with a db-killer; MIVV.
Anybody ever tried them? Apparently they make one that´s street legal in europe.

Sound? Performance?

And one more dumb question:
It looks like you only get the muffler itself and you use the original pipes up to the muffler. Isn´t it usual that you get the whole system all the way from the engine to the muffler?

Have a look:

You can generally get 4 types of exhaust systems for these bikes:
1 - Slip ons that replace the stock silencers/mufflers using the stock mid pipe.
2 - Slip on that mounts directly to the header (low mount).
3 - Half system that replaces the stock mid pipe and silencers.
4 - Full system with a header and either has its own midpipe or uses a low mount silencer.

So this would be a low mount slip on then?
And all I would have to do is get it on there and go to the dealer for tuning?
No changing of pipes? The reason for asking is cuz I´m such a lousy mechanic :-D

The dealer can load the TORS (Triumph Off-Road Silencer) map. But it will not be perfect.

PCIII or TuneBoy and a bit of tuning on the dyno will get the most benefit from this system. This will be especially true if you ever decide to remove the blockage in the stock header collector.

I do not have any experience with the Mivvs. I have never heard them. But would expect them to sound a lot like the M4, but a bit deeper.

This is what the homepage says about tuning:

FAQ: Do I have to change carburetion? No just install and ride, you don't need to tune your bike.

?? Can this be true? Sounds strange to me...
Can it have anything to do with the dB-killers?

Rule number 1:
If it doesn't require more fuel, it doesn't flow more air, and it doesn't make more power.

That being said, it can make a couple hp more and simply lean out the fuel curve a bit.

Almost any silencer for your bike CAN be run without tuning. The problem is that the stock tuning is already lean in the midrange.

Almost all aftermarket silencers will make close to the same power just by bolting them on. This is good for the look and sound many want.

At a later date you can add tuning and get performance gains. Or not. It is up to you.

Okay just one more stupid question :-D

So my bike would run just fine with say this MIVV silencer both with our without the tune?

The only change in the beginnig would be sound and weight?

That really depends on how you define "fine". But yes, the bike will likely run well with the system you mention either with the stock or TORS tune.

In my humble opinion, the STOCK mapping is very lean in the midrange. The TORS tune adds some fuel for additional flow in the exhaust with aftermarket silencers, but does not address the midrange.

This is why tuning the fuel and timing maps can gain impressive amounts of torque through the midrange and top end of the powerband.
