So, after spending part of the afternoon picking sand from the radiator, I am considering how much I really like riding in the Winter. It was caked in the area right behind the tire. Lovely. I'm inclined to take the radiator off and really do it thoroughly, but I'm not that ambitious. Oh, and regarding the cool fender eliminator we all think is cool, after one 50 minute ride in the rain Friday, my freshly washed coat was covered in fine sand and grit on the back. Maybe I should get mud flaps...

Sorry, the rant is now over.

On a related note, and this is a serious question, the underseat area around and just forward of the tail light accumulates sand and dirt. I am wondering if it would be okay to put some kind of seal around the tail light housing, like weatherstripping, etc. Dumb idea?

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I hear ya on the sand, I got out to day and slid my front tire in a slow turn, scared me to death.

Being that you ride a HD shouldn't you be use to sliding through turns???

I'm sorry. I couldn't resist. I really tried too. :hihi:

yeah goffe, I was a little hesitant on doing the 'tail chop' because of the spray from the rear tire. But after git'n caught in the rain a few times when I had my big ol' rear fender, and my backside still git'n soaked rather quickly, I figured what the hell. :hammer: :-D

It's only water and dirt. Men dig water and dirt. Especially when they are mud. Therefore...

No complaining about rain roost - Man Law!

You have my sympathy about the sand and the salt, though. One more reason to live where it doesn't snow :-D

Fine. No more complaints about water and dirt. Since, by Cheap's account, the fender doesn't do much good anyway, the cause must be the vacuum created by "knifing" :roflmoa2: through the air. :-D

I still hate to see sand caked in the radiator.
