My 02 Speedy is having some intermitent speedometer problems. Every now and then it will continue to register "0" when I'm moving. Usually, stopping, turning the key off and restarting has it working properly again. Doing a search I haven't found anything about this problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had the same problem and it was very common. The computer does an error check when starting and if the battery voltage is slightly low it turns the speedo off. If you have Tuneboy there is a setting to turn this error check off. This is what I used and have never had another problem. The dealer can't do this with their handheld programmer so at the time they were changing out the computers on the bikes to fix the problem.

If you don't have Tuneboy software then I would definitely recommend it. You will use it for much more than just fixing the speedo especially if you change pipes or every have any other problems with the bike.

I had the same issue with my '02. I noticed that it would happen after I washed the bike or if I left it out overnight when humidity was high. I don't know if it was moisture messing with the computer/electrics or something else, but I do know that I started being more attentive to moisture around the speedo and the probs. stopped. Don't know if you've found a connection with H2O or not, just a thought.

The issue is a voltage problem. If the battery isn't fully charged up, a low voltage signal gets sent through the ECU and it results in a fault in the speedo sensor. Triumph came out with a tune that was supposed to fix it (I never got it), but it'll be your best bet if a dealer is local to you.

I solved it by buying a new battery and keeping it on a battery tender. I bought the Yuasa YTX14-BS because it had a little more juice than the stock battery. I keep it on the battery tender between rides and have not had the problem since.

Agree with all of the above - happened to me once or twice. Besides a not fully juiced battery, it could also be loose connections at the battery terminals - check them too!

+1 to pretty much everything said here.
I had the same problem just a month or two ago. My bike was having kind of a hard time starting when it was cold ( a lot of cranking) and then the speedo wouldn't register. I would turn it all the off and re-start it, and everything would work fine. My battery finally died, and when I replaced it the problem went away and it starts really easy when cold now. However, my "check engine" light came on after I changed the battery. Some of the guys here said it takes three run cycle to operating temp and cooling down before the ECU will cancel the light after the battery is changed, because a low voltage was sensed. I've only riden it twice since then so I can't back this up, because it's winter. I have however let it idle in the garage up to operating temp a few times, and the light is still on so I'm not sure if those don't count or what. My bike runs great, but the light is on.

Thanks for all of the info everyone, sounds like it should be something relatively simple. I'll start by checking all of the connections.
