2,000 kilometers ago, I took my bike in to a Triumph dealer for a front tyre fitting. I left it on the bike as I don't have a front stand. Today it's been into a different dealer for the brake fix. When I went to collect it, the service manager said "hey, why have you got your front tyre fitted backwards?" Closer inspection revealed that the ENTIRE WHEEL assembly was installed backwards . Now, will anything be damaged? Obviously the discs have rotated backwards and onto the wrong pads which can't be good? What about wheel bearings, will they be OK?
I was with Welsh Rob when it was discovered and was ready to go straight to the dealer and punch the service guy in the head. I have calmed down a bit now but would value your opinions as to what would you do? Luckily living where I live I've not ridden in the wet, the gut reckons I'd have probably have gone down if I had Don't want to do that with $3,000 worth of paint

Yes, I was with 1050POME when we discovered it. He`s one VERY big bloke who was VERY pissed off with his local dealer. Luckily, he went home to calm down instead of going straight to the shop or it would have been "nosebleed city!" The S3 front wheel can be put on either way, the most obvious problem is that the front tyre is running backwards. Other implications are that the discs may warp as a result of changing sides. This could have been quite dangerous in the wet. Not funny.

:-D direction is the same, we're just the wrong way up. It's good apart from the blood rushing to your head. My blood will be up tomorrow when I go see the dealer

It most likely handled a little poorly. The dealer is supposed to check tire rotation direction before mounting. WOW! He must be a real Dumb Ass!!!

Stuff the paint mate. You've got more than 3 grands worth of skin!

I don't think you should have any problem with the bearings and brake rotors. The bearings are usually ambidexterous.

The tyre is usually rated one direction for high speed/forces.
We used to run Pirelli silver dots backwards on the front as they got more stress from braking.[they only rated them for one end I think]
I'd hit them up for a new front tyre 'cause you can't trust it now.

Then kick his aass.

Was the origional dealer Brisbane based? PM me if you prefer.

The bearings don't care what direction they rotate. But the tire tread IS directional for water displacement. I doubt seriously that there is any damage. Just bed in the pads again when it is fixed.

Shoot a photo of the tire and send it to Triumph with a brief letter about the quality of this dealers service. Then contact OWNER of the dealership that mounted the tire. Let them know you have serious doubts about their abilities and that you have contacted Triumph about this. Have them refund the cost of the service work on the tires and fix the problem. Make sure they have a "talk" with the service manager.

Service quality everywhere is falling apart. If you don't take this seriously, neither will the dealer and service manager.

Tonup, strangely enough it handled fine..... In the dry.
AA, they are Sunshine Coast based. Nice little sig btw :-D
Devi, already got the pictures but was thinking of using it as a bargaining tool with the dealer before sending to Triumph, see what they offer first... I have e-mail address for top guy in Oz and also customer service manager in the UK. If I don't get a satisfactory response tomorrow, I'm gonna make them real uncomfortable...
