So has anyone else read the article in Bike magazine in which they took the 11 most popular engine types and tested them against one another? Rather than 0-60 runs they opted for more real world races called Stop Light GP. The good ol' S3 dominated and beat every single one of those clunkers including the Gixxer Grand and the Busa. They also did some measurements of engine vibration and a 40mph roll on and Speedy brought the heat again. Vibration was significantly less than even an inline4 but the testers attributed it to Speedy's solid construction. It was a great read but I wasn't surprised at all.

Agreed, and I love the powerplant. But, why the Hell is it so noisey? L'OP

At a stop light you don't need to rev it up like and inline four. Just roll it on at 3000 rpm and you are out of there. It is such a sweet around town bike.

Don't even need 3000 RPM, I regularly pull my 120KG away from the lights @ 1800rpm and if in a petrol saving mood, change up @ 3000 all the way through the gears. Makes a change from the 7-8000RPM changes when in hooligan mode :hammer: :-D

Bottom line, the S3 version of the I3 motor is one of the sweetest engines around period...

As nice as the torque is on the 1050 S3, you still need to run it up from time to time ('hooligan mode' as Russ says). The valves and plugs tend to build up a lot of carbon at commuter speeds/revs.

I agree with the article, a great engine that can catch some faster bikes napping from time to time. Gotta love the comments and questions at the next stoplight!
