Just for shiats and giggles I was contemplating this. What are the odds Triumph would make a 1050 Race bike to compete with the likes of the Ducati 1098 and the Jap Liter Bikes. I think it would be a good move personally. They have the power plant and a basic body concept with the 675. The 675 has a really a badarse look if you ask me and it is seems that the new 1098 looks a little like it really. Triumph could put it out there for $12-13K and get it I bet. Anyway just day dreaming, but you never know.

Any thoughts guys...........

The 1050 engine won't be any good for a 1000cc sport bike. It's just a bored out 955 engine. They would have to create an entirely new engine to get the performance like all the other 1000cc sport bikes out there have. I was talking with a Triumph dealer at the motorcycle convention in Minneapolis last friday, and he said that Triumph is coming out with a naked 675 next year. Probably won't see a big daytona next year at all.

I hear you, i would love a 1050 daytona. But it definatly needs current 1000cc sportbike power. It would be bad on triumph to make a 1000cc sportbike that was not comparable to a r1 or gsxr.

It needs to be a competitor.

Actually, the 1050 is a stroked 955 engine. The cylinder bores are identical.

I must agree though that you won't see a 1050 race Triumph of any kind in the future. The rumor mill is already running at 150% about a new liter class triple engine and bike to compete with the big boys. I'm guessing it will be a 1250cc engine and weigh about 395lbs dry- as opposed to any 955/1050 Daytona that would weigh about 420lbs dry.

edit: Probably be announced next october, to be available in 2008. The great prognosticator, Tarmac The Magnificent, has spoken. Bow your heads and speak in hushed tones in his presence.

I would like that very very much. I love my S3 but I always want more power, better handling and less weight.

Nope, I just don't see it.
A 1050 just isn't going to run with the hypersports.
Developing another engine that will be competitive is going to be costly. Didn't the last crew who worked on a project like this get moved to develop the Tiger?

A move towards hypersports doesn't make good business sense - at least to me. The quality control on engine parts and assembly would have to come WAY up.

Another cruiser, or a 675 Speed Triple makes good sense.

If you compare the fit and finish of throttle bodies, intake parts, and headers on Japanese and Euro sport bikes to the same parts on a Triumph, you will see a difference.

Also, some of the fasteners on Triumphs could be upgraded.

All of this adds to costs. It is easier and cheaper to buy parts in larger quantities. Triumph doesn't have the buying power of Japanese companies. A fact of life I guess.

That said, I still like the Triumph. It is different, and it's easy for me to improve.

I think the 675 will be a big a big factor in the evolution of Triumph. Racing helps to better these companies, if they can get a racing team together and start learning from it, they could do a lot. If I recall correctly, the AMA changed their rules to allow 675 Triples, this would be a great opportunity for triumph. Locally, a 675 won the championship in the regional class here. It was a team from the dealership. Granted they were up against teams from the big four dealers as well.
I'd like to see it, but I don't think we will. I'd like to see something more of an 800, the 675 is supposed to be built for it, I think it'd be a bit more reasonable than something new altogether.
