Yesterday I tried to take the tree off for powdercoating, but I ran out of tools. What should I use to open the bolt on the top? What's the size?

What nut are you talking about? The topmost one that is visible on top of the headstock? Isn' that hexagonal enough for any old wrench to work on?

Anything under that seems to require the Triumph tool T3880024, which is a deep 6 pin crown socket (no idea about the correct term).

Edit. This is the one:

I guess you could make one out of some old socket with a Dremel or a very thing grinder+a steady hand. If you are in a hurry that is.

Yeah the topmost one. Opening that is enough to get the tree off, right?

Top yoke shoud come off with removing that nut and the fork legs. Bottom yoke removal might require the funky socket.

I have not done the removal, just had a peek at the manual on my desk.

That's a 36mm on the top tree.Be careful that your ignition cylinder doesn't twist when you re-install the tree.

You say the 'tree' But not sure if you're doing both triple clamps or just the top one?
If just the top one ignore steps 1-3 & only follow steps 4 through 7.

2006 Front forks/yoke fiche

1. Support bike so weight is off front wheel
2. Remove calipers, (I balance them on top of radiator to avoid weight on the hoses)
3. Remove wheel
4. Remove bars/controls assembly by removing the bolts for the risers.(just rest away from the yoke assembly - protect tank with towels)
5. Loosen pinch bolts top yoke
6. Remove top yoke nut #30 in reference drawing
7. Remove top/yoke
8. Remove locknut # 40, washer # 41 & bearings adjusting nut # 30 - support weight of forks so they don't come crashing out when you remove # 38!
9. Withdraw forks complete with triple tree from the headstock.

When re-installing be sure to adjust your bearings correctly with #38 - you don't want these too tight!

Probably just the language difference (although your English infinitely better than my Finnish!!!!)
- the triple tree usually means assembly of both yokes & the stem whereas the top one alone would be the top yoke or top triple clamp.
(that's not meant to be derisory - just helping explain the terminology - well-intended)

A suggestion for alternative to powder coating might be to anodize it - cost is likely similar and there are a ton of colours available these days. Check my signature for example of anodized top clamp.
