Hello all,

Discovered this forum while looking for information on Speed Triples. I have been browsing the last couple of days, lots of good information and stories. This thread is tough. What a bummer.

Anyways I am looking for some advice. I am the second owner (2 months) of a 2000 speed triple. This is my first bike but I have worked on my cars.

Last night when I came home from work and pulled into the garage, radiator fluid was flowing out of the overflow pipe. It was a pretty steady stream that stopped soon after I turned off the engine. I added about 5 oz of water this AM and let it run. At first it seemed OK, but after about 5 minutes it started flowing again. I may have overfilled it though.

Is there anything I can check for or replace easily before I shell out some bills at a shop? I don't have a shop manual but I am going to see if I can find a Haynes this weekend.

-Mark

First - check to make sure it is not over filled.
Next - check that the radiator cap is working correctly. If not, the coolant will flow out when it warms.

oodles,

Welcome first off. Do you hear the fan running at all, this could be a problem. Hard to diagnose over the computer but there are a couple guys on here that are really knowledgable lads like Devi and Oldsquid. Maybe they have an idea. As for a shop manual, I don't think Haynes makes one but there is a guy on ebay selling cd version ones all the time. Just search under speed triple. Good luck and welcome again...........

I second the radiator cap. I had that same problem on my '04 Tiger and it turned out that the radiator cap wasn't fitting properly. Cap was replaced under warranty and I haven't had a problem since.

Oodles,
i had this problem on my 03 model, when you check the level cold, make sure it's just up at the minimum mark, i was always topping mines up to the max and every time i did this it would piss out the overflow. No problems since.

I checked the fan and it is running.
The rad cap looks OK and fits snug. The pressure valve(spring?) moves easily so I doubt it is that. I will check the water level and make sure it is OK. It looks like it is off to the shop though.

Only other things I can think of is blocked radiator, bad water pump, or bad thermostat.

The coolant reservoir has some brown sitting on the bottom so I am a bit concerned that some gunk has built up in the radiator.
I am told that the coolant system was flush in the last year so it should all be fresh.
