I am looking to take my 2006 triple across country. I need a few thing to make into a partial touring bike. I am looking to upgrade the...

Seat: Not sure if corbin or sargent is better for long rides.

Windscreen: Would like something that will keep the wind off my chest and is detachable or at least not to ugly!`

levers: Something more comfortable like a pistol grip.

Luggage rack. that can hold a decent size bag.

All of you have been more than helpful in the past...so please hook me up with some decent links or idea's!

I truley would appreaciate any help.

Thanks Speeeeeeed!~~~~~~~~~~~

On the luggage side of things you could try as a tankbag the Quick engage tankbag from Twisted Throttle, brilliant set up.From norrus.com you can get the ALU rack which can then take a Givi case or other bags.Ventura has a good setup, rack and you can get 2 bags that zip together.Whatever you do someone will say it looks ugly but remember you can unbolt it when you get home. :hammer:

That sounds great!

+1 to the SW Motech Quick Lock. I use that daily. My only gripe is that the horseshoe isn't very resilient and I will have to replace it sooner or later.

There is a bag option with heat resistant pads that I am spying from the aftermarket goodies site. Look here for more info on that... I'll post info on them when I get around to making the purchase.

I'd put a clutch cable in whichever bag you choose! I'd also get the AAA with motorcycle package for some 'cheap' insurance.

Have a great time & keep us updated on your progress.

i did only a week on mine, 3000+ miles from az into utah, vegas, La, san fran up to the redwoods and down the coast, visting exile choppers and some others then back to az on a stock 06 s3. after about 300-400 miles the seat was hurting a bit. i also only took a backpack that weighed about 30 lbs. kinda crazy but it worked, next time ill go the smarter saddle bag route. im glad you posted this forum, i had the same questions.

i havent seen a windscreen that does anything yet for this bike, id be interested too in seeing one. from what i understand the one they sell doesnt block anything really.

Last fall I started out on a 2,500 mile trip, but unfortunately had to end it about 1/3 the way through. But the first portion went very well.

I rode about 700 miles the first day with the bike completely stock. The seat was fine, but after now having a Sargent seat, I wouldn't go back. If you don't want to invest in an upgraded seat, I swear by the padded bicycle shorts. They cost about $25 but are worth every penny if you don't want to invest in a seat upgrade.

Buffering from the wind, I don't if there is a solution. Get a good aerodynamic helmet, and work on excercises that stretch your neck. Physical fitness goes a long way when combined with good gear in staying comfortable with the wind. Doing things to strengthen your lower back and abs will help posture and also ensure your comfort.

Luggage, I picked up a Cortech Tri-Bag Tail Bag

That combined with a Wolfman Strap Tank Bag was adaquate for a week trip. I did however not have much room for camping gear. In hindsight, I probably could have gotten a cheap duffle bag and strapped it to the seat and gotten a little more storage space. But bags I purchased seemed like they're built pretty well.

I'm planning a 5,000 mile trip for this May and the only change I'll make is to add some sport saddle bags, because I have an M4 exhaust so I don't have the pipe issue to deal with. I can't comment on how levers might impact the ride quality, but proper adjustment of them makes a big difference. Generally you want the levers rotated around the handlebars so they are inline with your arm. That does seem to help response and comfort for me.

And one other thing I'd suggest, and will get criticized for this. Look into heated gear, or heated grips at the very least. I can ride all day long on just about any bike, until I start to get a chill. Then, it's all down hill.

Good luck and safe travels.

Id just get some soft panniers, for about 70$ you can get a good set. Put the most important stuff in the tank and go. You dont need a windscreen. No matter which you get, it's still not any good. Just go commando!

Bring a rainsuit! And cold weather stuff, never know if it will get cold.

In march im riding a friends cbrf4i to california, no problem. Ill get there in a few days.

+1 on the SW Motech/Twisted throttle tank bag. Great piece of gear!

I also think Motrin would be nice to have along, I have only ridden mine about 300 miles in one sitting and was ready to scream by the time I got to my destination. Looking at buying a new seat myself.
