I was checking out an 01 at a dealer in my area.
Things to look for on an 01, or things I should be aware of?
I sat on it and it feels nice, could be a tad lower.

let me know what you think. I currently ride a 2000 sportster, but I am looking for a little more hp and torque, also fun!

thanks,
john

Is it the photo or is the exhaust filthy?

Buy it and enjoy it.

Another vote for the '01. They are pretty bulletproof. There were two recalls. One for the clutch cable, and one for the fuel fittings on the tank. Make sure they have been sorted before buying. Then have fun!

My '00 is wonderful. I think the '00 and the '01 are the same basic bikes. Get it and enjoy!

I would like to take it for a test ride first. But the weather in Pittsburgh is awful lately.

I left the salesperson my name and number and told him to call me when I could ride it.

thanks for the responses.

Even if the recalls have not been carried out, your local dealer should do them free of charge.

I looked at the photo's and the clutch cable looks like the original, ready to snap one. The recall replacement cable has a curved tube at the lever end.
