They are using different suppliers for the "generic parts" to cut costs, which could be compromising the quality. In addition, they loosen the tolerance on the valves clearance to comply with their new service intervals, which could me a more risk of problems.

The bike is beautiful. However, even if I want to get one, I'd wait for a year or two to see how everything works together.

I like the way it looks but would likely never be able to fit on it. I think my brother will end up with one as he is in the market so at least I'll get a ride or two. He will undoubtably exact some sort of torture out of me for the priviledge.

As far as the parts ousourcing are concerned I am not so sure the quality is at risk. I would assume that they would have a rigorous QC method in place, but who knows. There are MFGs out in the world that can crank out high numbers of quality parts efficiently and that is where they are saving the bucks. It would be suicide for them financially to allow sub-standard parts to go through to consumers. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Anyhow, it is a beautiful bike but like R100Pilot posted, the S3 looks pretty good against a $3,000/Year insurance bill.

I have no interest in the 1098. I am sure it is a very nice motorcycle. 1050 is enough for now. I don't want to be greedy.

I would love one as a second bike or just have it revolving on a rostrum in my lounge, but my bank manager said NO! also i have nowhere near finished with the mods on Speedy yet.

It's a beatiful bike, one of the nicest yet...but, the cost of keeping a Duc (regular maintinence), especially if you put on a lot of miles, is probably the highest of any bike sold.
Still, I probably wouldn't mind having one parked in my garage.

I am sure they strive to do the best they can and in no ways I am trashing Ducati. However, it is notable to remember that their main concerns is 1) performance and 2) reduced price for mass marketing (more profit). Hence, quality might not be the highest priority. In addition, any new models from any manufacturers require a transition phase. Not to say that they can't be top notch, but I personally prefer to play it safe and wait for 1-2 years.

Very nice bike, but I wonder whether it'll be the same kind of torture rack to ride that the 916 was. Personally, I'm waiting for the Hypermotard - that's more my kind of bike considering my age and back

I had a Duc 996 before and it was quite a torture. For a sportbike, I am very happy with my Daytona 675 now. Personally, it is much more nimble and lighter to ride, sounds much better, better ergonomics (no more heavy clutch). In addition, D675 is also not lacking attention from people. People from both sportbike and cruiser crowds came and talk to me .
