I removed my sparkplugs, and #1 appears to be white and grey, while the other two look dark and oily.

A couple of bits on the head of #1 appear to be almost new!

What could be the reason. If you are not following the thread on my bike woes, then maybe that can shed some light on this.

To my eye, number one appears normal. Two and Three would seem to indicate oil or unburned fuel in the cylinder. I'd check compression on all cylinders looking for bad rings or valve seals. Also, I'd check the coils to see if there is weak spark from them.

Another thought, although I doubt it. Is it possible that some of your problems are caused by the #2 and #3 coils being reversed? That would cause all sorts of problems, including the plugs you just showed us.

Just a thought.

Thats a good question. I went and looked, and they are in the right place. But thats something I have never thought about before.

Im going to get some new plugs today and start the bike up and see if it does it again.

If does need a new top end, I think i would just sell it and buy a newer triple. How hard do you run your machine? How many miles does it have?

I commute on it, and weekend riding on it. the bike had 70k on it. This is a low mileage bike for me.

I dont know if Id buy another triumph considering that every triumph shop ive gone is pretty worthless. Love the bikes, hate the shops.
