I am new to this forum today and am in the market for a Speed Triple. I have read most of the forums, but was unable locate a search function to find what year is rated best. I like the style of the 05-07 and would rather buy that one, new or used. The best I have found so far is a new 06 black for 9499.00 OTD in California. Is that a good price???

Thanks for any imput,
Paul

You do realized that for only a few dollars more you can get an 07 which has a few upgrades. I bought mine in August, and kind of wished I waited, but I had to have it then and don't regret buying an 06.

+1
I also purchased a 2006 in Aug. after learning that it might be Jan/Feb before the 07's started hitting the dealer floors. The 2 closest dealers to me don't have them yet. The 2007 have 2nd generation ECU's with (reported) shorter crank times.....I'm not sure what else they offer over the earlier models.

Oh, I was told that the 2006 was the same as the 2007. The best I can do on an 07 is 10,000 OTD. Is this a good price in California??

$9500 OTD sounds great to me. I wish I could have got that deal earlier this year. The upgrades on the 07 are so minor that I wouldnt pay extra for it. Roulette Green and a larger ECU with a slightly different exhaust shield I believe.
Go for it...thats a good price.

The upgraded ECU for the 07 is a plus, but there is one minus for the new bike: That ugly heat shield is there to disguise the catalytic converter that they've installed in the split.

If you figure to install an aftermarket half system then I say go with the 07. Otherwise it makes little difference, unless you have a favorite color.

Supposedly the 07 has the coated caliper pistons in the brakes as well. A possible plus.

Don't think about it too much, just buy what you want. You can't go wrong with a Speed Triple!

It's more than just the small upgrade, it's the first years depreciation that's more of a consideration at this point. If you plan on owing this motorcycle for more than 6 years than get the 06. If you like everyone else and get something new about ever 3 years get the 07. It will make a difference when you sell. You live in Cali so the could start issue might not make a big difference to you anyway.

So the 2006 Triples do not have cat's, and the 2007 come equipted as stock with them?? If that is the case maybe the 06 would be a better bike to get then.

Forget about cats. You're gonna rip out the exhaust anyhow and change it with a full system Zard or Arrows. An M4 at the least.
Cold starting issues are a non event with my 06, provided you have the right tune in the bike.

Haa, my wife says if I buy the bike it will have to stay stock until Christmas next year. So, with the replies I have so far, seems like the 06 new is the best way to go since the 07 does not have any significant upgrades.
