Travelling about thirty mph in traffic and the cage in front starts to slow ( near a petrol station ) and I apply a little front brake. This causes the front to lock and off I hop. The giant belt sander was needles to say greasier than a ho's chuff.

Damage to me = PRIDE Damage to speedy = polished clutch cover, snapped rear brake lever, scraped bar end and bent handle bars. bike was rideable.

Just need some advice, the OE bar is expensive but looks cheapo. Can anyone advise on renthal/aftermarket replacements that keep the OE bar position and comfort.

Many thanks.

seriously look into pro-taper bars. parts of your sub-frame would bend before these bars.
i can't comment about the 7/8's pro-taper bars i have on as i haven't eaten it yet.

but i did have a gnarley crash on pavement with the larger diameter pro-tapers, and they didn't budge.

my renthals would bend on the slightest tip over.

I like my Renthal street fighters ok, Next time I will get something without a label at half the cost.
Pitposse.com has nice deals on 7/8's that are exactly the same as my street fighters.
I live around the corner from them and have held the bars in my hand.

at $35. you cant go wrong.

they also have good inexpensive pegs for 05+ speedy.

A member on t595 was raving about Renthal Ultra Low bars. I guess that is what I'd get if I needed to replace.

I really like my Renthal Ultralow bars. The streetfighter bars I've got are just too tall and wide for my taste.

Everyone seems to be having a run of bad luck. At least no one was hurt real bad and the bikes are in decent shape.

I really need to start considering some frame sliders. They just seem to cost a lot of loot for a bolt with a chunk of plastic attached. But considering the alternative ....

Happy Holidays all and get well you pugs !

The 7/8" pro tapers are VERY nice bars. Of course, my experiance with them is desert riding. They did very well at not transfering engine vibs to the grips.... also helped me reduce arm pump.

Right now I'm running renthal twin walls.... Dont get me wrong, they are the tuffest bars I have ever seen (theyve taken some SERIOUS crashes) BUT they transfer vibrations like a mofo! Only reason i switched is because I wanted a different bend and had heard good things about their durability. Perfect bars for 30 minutes on a MX track..... absolutly horrid for going 150 miles through the desert.

So ya, I think for a street bike.... I think you'd really enjoy the protapers. They have really nice finishes as well..... if youre into good looks as well

Edit: I was using the Protaper SE Handlebars

Hate to hear about another one, but it's a good excuse to get new bars. Hairball's right - don't pay for a label.
