hello this is my first post. my name is steve and i live in around the chicagoland area.

i currently have an 05 harley sportster and i am looking to upgrade for next summer. i was planning on getting a big twin but decided not to go in that direction.

i like the triumphs and think i might buy one the only problem is that i like the Speed Triple and the thruxton. money isnt a variable in making a choice between the two.

im caught by the classic lines and style of the thruxton and the power and the crazy style of the speed three.

just looking for some opinons.

thanks,
Steve

PS also are triumphs reliable bikes. the dealer isnt too far away to make a big fuss but dont want to get a bike that is going to have problems (LOL comming from a harley owner)

you will eventually get bored of the thruxton, plus it hurt the hell outta my wrists, the s3 has it all, except touring.

I went from a Sporty to a Speedy, no comparison! Speedy is suprisingly way more comfortable, especially at speed. Also one of the most notable differences is how completely effortless it is in comparison, steering, braking, accel., etc. Did I mention it is way, WAY faster?

Depends what you want from the bike. The S3 is a fantastic all rounder. It does evertything well.

If you want to go slow then the Thruxton may be ok, but I wouldn't want one as my only bike, although it is drop dead gorgeous.

Either will be better than the tractor you currently own. :-D

Reliability is not an issue.

You haven't had a nasty experience on your Sporty recently with a Burgman have you? Or did you read that thread and decide to bail out early?
Speed Triple is all you will ever need. Nostalgia is fine but I looked through my old books and, as we all know, there wasn't no Triumph Thruxton back in the 50's. So it isn't a copy just dated looking (and slow enough to make you nervous if Mr Burgman pulls up next to you ha ha)

If ya git the speedy, you'll be happy forever. I can't vouch fer the Thruxton, I've never ridden one, although they are beautiful, I think I would git a little bored with it after a while. :-D

I've got both. Love both. I ride the S3 more. But I love every moment on the Thruxton. They both get a lot of attention at my weekly ride to Sonic out in the "country". The Thruxton isn't something I personally can sit on for extended periods, but hey, if I'm seriously going somewhere (several hundred miles) I'm on the Concours anyway.

I take the S3 and Thrux to the track periodically. They're both fun as hell for completely different reasons. The Thrux makes you aware of carrying speed with you. You cannot dial it in like on the 1050. It isn't twitchy, but rolls like on rails. The S3, on the otherhand, reminds me of a aerobatic aircraft. It is slightly unstable in order to be very quick reacting and maneuverable.

You feel like a hero riding the Thrux, like maybe you just got the call and are rushing to the airfield where they are warming up your Spitfire. The S3 makes me feel like I ought to be on a National Registry of Undesirables. I'm a Gemini.

If money's no object like you said above, you dont have to pick which one, just which color!! (I recommend black, always tasteful and slimming too)

Good luck.
