According to the somewhat obscure owners manual for my 06 speedy, I should "not leave the steering lock in the P position for long periods of time as this will cause the battery to discharge". The manual doesn't say exactly what the P position is for and when it should be used.

Can someone please 'splain it to me? :

If you put it in park the lights stay on, hence not for long periods of time. if you were parking on a dark street for a little while etc.
