Did a track day at Summit Point Main Today. Here are some thoughts in no particular order.
It was nice and cold this morning. The first couple of sessions were cold. At 140 mph, 50 degrees, what's the wind chill?
Riding in the beginner group in the morning sucks ass. The first session actually felt dangerous because people are going so slow.
The afternoon was nice. The sun came out for most of the afternoon. The rain waited until I had packed up the bike and was leaving the track.
Between Turns 2 and 3, 2 bikes ahead of me, a groundhog made a mad dash to his death. It was perfect timing. The center of the groundhog was positioned perfectly in front of the bike. The groundhog was mashed right in the middle. The bike suffered no ill effects. The guy on the bike directly in front of me got a little freaked out and slowed down way too much. He eventually ran off the track right before turn three. (no crash).
The last session I was following another bike around for about 3-4 laps at least. We were both moving pretty good. I would catch up with him at the start of turn 5 and he would start to move ahead of me around turn 9 & 10 and down the long straight. When we finished, we found out that a control rider (Brian) had been shadowing us the whole time. He said we should probably both be in I group (of course he didn't actually bump us up). My lap times for the last session were around 1:32.
The control rider said that he could tell I was using Pilot Powers by the big darkies I was putting down coming out of turns 1 & 2.
Overall it was a good day.

So, you were in the beginner group all day? I assume "I" means intermmediate. If true, then it sounds like it got better in the later rounds.
Glad it went well; the more I hear track day reports, the more I want to do it...

We should meet up at VIR sometime next year. Go pawn something and get some money.
Of course if you get addicted, then you'll be maxing out the credit cards, taking a second mortgage on the house, renting the kids out for medical experiments.

They have 3 groups at NESBA.
B= Beginner
I= Intermmediate
A= Advanced.
I've been in Beginner all year. Beginner is dangerously slow in the morning. It gets better in the afternoon though. People get faster as they learn the track. Plus there are less people on the track because many people skip the last couple of sessions.

Skip the last sessions? Pikers.
I'm debatin' whether to be responsible and get the gear and get the bike in shape (tires, tuning, chain) as I can afford it, or just run up the credit card and get on with it.

Since winters coming up, you should have a 2-3 months to get ready for the next track season. Although I guess it starts early and ends late in Florida.

"Track season?" Whassat? Jennings has stuff scheduled through a New Years Day track day blowout, and my guess is they just haven't gotten around to filling out the '07 calendar yet.
