I've been lurking here for awhile but I think it's time to jump in. Right now I'm between motorcycles--my beloved Norton and I were hit by a van that ran a stop sign in 1988 and I haven't ridden since. After reading here about how wonderful the Speed Triple is I think I'll be buying one next spring. I suppose I should test ride one first, but I'm pretty sure it will be a thrilling ride, especially compared to my "old-tech" Commando.
So, be prepared for a lot of stupid questions/comments from me in the future

Mindonkman,

Welcome.

Funny you mentioning Norton. I was just thinking John Boor should by the name and build Nortons...or BSAs or Ariels...in the same plants as Triumphs.

You'll love the S3.

Oh I didn't know you welcomed stupid questions... let me start then.
I have only been on this forum for about 4-5 weeks, and although I have read HEAPS, I am still puzzled about TORS. No idea what they are, except I think they are pipes that look like original ones??? But the mention of Triumph Off Road (TOR?) mapping confuses me. Not sure if I have seen photos of TORS or not.
And just what sort of mess have Triumph made with the std pipes? That cast stuff is gross. The full Zard system looks the best, but in Australia choice is very limited. Staintunes will have to do. Or are there other systems readily available? Cheers

You can always count on Limey an' Cheap fer stupid answers. Come to think of it, they occasionally ask stupid questions. In fact, we're thinking of opening a whole new forum: "Ask Cheap." Limey has agreed to moderate.

TORS: Triumph Off-Road System. Them's the freer-flowin' mufflers from The Mother Ship. Off-road does NOT mean you should take your speedy inne dirt. It means they ain't "street legal" (wink, wink).

The speed triple is gonna be a world o' different from your old Norton. I got an old beemer an' I'm still amazed at what 20-some years of technological advance kin do when I switch.

Glad you're ridin' again, an' welcome to the family.
