I have been reading about new exhausts and most people who get an exhaust get a tune for it.
Now I understand reflashing the ECU and what the tunes do, so here is my question.....
I'm not talking about a tuneboy or Power Commander, just the OEM unit.
How many tunes can the ECU store? How are they accessed?
Who can do the reflash?
Suppose I bought a set of TOR's and wanted to get the TOR tune. What would be the procedure to get it?
Will it be erased if the battery dies?
How much does it cost?
Sorry for the newbie questions!!!!!

The ECU can store only one flashed tune at a time.
Reflashing the ECU requires a programmer (a dealer only part), or Tuneboy.
To get the TOR tune, take your bike to a dealer and have it done. They normally charge for 1/2 hour of work (some more, some less). If you buy the TOR silencers through your dealer, generally the tune comes with the price of the silencers.
The tune is stored on a chip in the ECU. It will not be lost if the battery dies, but just like the stock tune, it can become corrupted (although rare).

Whew! Y'know, I was just wonderin' about just such a thing, on accounta I got the TORS tune before the wires went all goofy an' blew the fuses. I figured it was stored on some kinda flash memory gizmo and would not default back to stock when the battery was disconnected, but I hate to assume.

Been ogling the BikeBandito site. Seems if you're rich enough you SHOULD be able to order the programmer.

Makes Tuneboy look like quite a bargain.

thanks for the info!
So if someone has a tuneboy with the triumph adaptor and software, they could flash my bike and I would be set?

To use the dealer programmer, you also need to be able to access and download the Triumph tunes into it.
Speedydave - You will need to buy a Tuneboy key for your ECU - USD $150. Your friend (with the Tuneboy cable) connects to your bike and downloads the ECU serial number and you send it in an e-mail to Tuneboy.com.au and pay for the key - they will e-mail the key to you. I did this for HiVel, and now he is considering buying his own Tuneboy cable (a simple upgrade if you already have bought the key).

Ok, so if I pick up a used set of TOR's or whatever, I will need to go to a triumph dealer and get a reflash.
And they will charge me about .5 hour of their labor rate.
Thanks!

Most shops will charge around USD $50 for the flash to TOR tune - IF you buy the TOR silencers elsewhere. This will bump your power about 4-5 hp (4.5%) - including the silencers.
A tuneboy key will cost $150, and using Wayne MacDonald's dyno-tuned map, you can get an additional 5-6 hp (5-5.5%) - and a much wider powerband. For the additional $100, and a friend with Tuneboy, this is the best bang for your buck. The hard part is finding someone in your area with Tuneboy.
Just my .02

Just for general BS knowledge (that doesn't do you any good), The term "flashing" the ECU comes from past EPROM chips that required exposing the chip to UV light to actually alter its programming.
Now "flashing" is just a term for reprogramming the chip.
I TOLD you it wouldn't do you any good!
