so,, i've had this thing for two months,,, 4500 miles, my dealer is good in personality,, but slow as mollassis, i know i spelled that wrong, but anyway,,, a week and a half ago (sunday) i droped my bike off at the dealer because i was riding and it started going "thwackity thwackity thwackity thwackity" but only under accel, soooooo
it's now a week and a half later,, where i've been taking the bus everywhere, ewww

last tues,, them "i started it up and didn't here anything,, sounds fine"
me " please take it for a ride,, i promise you it sounds like a train, get it to 30 in first and accelerate hard to 45, i promise you'll hear it."

last fri them "yeah,, i took it home with me, 45 min trip, and after it warmed up i did hear a little of something, not sure what it is,, doesn't seem to be valves to me, the bike wouldn't be running well at all, and it's runing fine, but i'll tell ya what, were real busy and won't have a chance to look at it untill tues, but we'll take the valve cover off and see what's goin on" note: the owner who took my bike home is an ok guy, but rides bikes like grandma probably never goes past 1/8 turn on a speedy throttle.

me" roll my eyes,,, thanks,,, "

yesterday,,, them,, the head mechanic a friend of mine " yeah, i took a ride on it just because i wanted to know for myself, so it's not anyone elses word on what it sounds like, and i'll admit at first it sounded just fine, but after about 15 minutes i did hear something, but i personally highly doubt it's valves, maybe something crankshaft, you were a quart low on oil when it got in here "
ME "WHAT, two freaking weeks ago i asked for an oil change and that guy up front said i didn't need it at 4000 miles, even when i said, i'ld rather be safe then sorry" he said it was fine.
Mechanic: i know, but you should still check it on your own, but that aside, i think that because you were so low oil wasn't reaching the pump while you were wheelieing around. which i'm goint to neglect to tell anyone, but i think that's what happened.
me: thanks for supporting me, but it's not my fault even if i was wheelieing around, so what's next...
Mechanic: alright, i'm goint to talk to the owner in the morning, and depending on what triumph says we'll probably look at the cams and valve train just to knock that off the option block, but i don't think triumph will let me do exploritory if it's not there. so if we don't find anything tommorow then we'll probably give it back to you and tell you to ride it till either nothing happens,, or it gets worse and we can find where it's really gone wrong.
me: if you give me that bike back, and it "get's worse" while i'm 130 miles an hour, and i get even a scratch on me,, i'm sueing your boss and he'll pay for my kids college.
mechanic : well, i'ld advise against doing 130, that would get him out of the lawsuit,, keep legal speeds, and you might have him. but look, i didn't say this,, but if you start to hear something bad again or feel something, pull over to the side of the road, put it in neutral and pin it till something is really wrong. that way there's no questions about it... but i definatly did not say that.

TODAY, them: yeah, were gonna take that valve cover off later and get a good look at the cam lobes. but we're not gonna do that till later.
me thanks, later.

***,,,,,, i want my bike, this is bull*****, triumph sucks, and i'll never buy one agian, i've had the bike for two months and it's spend 3 weeks in the shop. it's my only transportation and i hate HATE the bus. how hard is it to go to bat for a customer, "give this guy a new bike"
i don't know what's wrong with it and neither do they, and it sounds like***** runs fine. grrrrrr, i bet a suzuki wouldn't have this bull
on top off all this,, i don't even get a loaner.
sorry for the long rant, but i needed to tell some people that understand.

man dude, I really feel for ya! I hate you are having all of these issues with yer bike, because I love mine and haven't had any issues! Sucks that you're having to go thru all of that sh*t, especially with the bike being your only transportation! Good luck on getting it all sorted, and if the cheapster was rich, a loaner wouldn't be a problem! :hammer:

I can certainly empathize with your situation, but unfortunately, this same thing happens with all brands, go to some of the Japanese brand boards and you'll read countless similar stories... I know that doesn't make you feel better, but just take it easy, once you get the bike back in full working order, and romp the throttle again, you'll forget all about this.. lol...

Sounds like a place I'd keep my triple far away from I went *** about 5 times reading your story.

I wonder what it is about these dealers who suck up to Triumph.

Sorry to hear about than man, The folks at Manayunk (right?) are a nice bunch of guys so I'm sorry to hear that you are in this situation with no movement on getting the bike ripped down, diagnosed and fixed (under warranty of course). Sorry about the bus thing. SEPTA sucks big time! The worse public transit system in the western world!

I hope this gets rectified or you get a unexpected large bonus from your employer and you can get a second backup scoot (we can all dream cant we).

I'm wit the rest of 'em - that's not a problem wit the bike (well, it is, but nothin' that can't be taken care of). It's a problem wit the BONEHEADS at the dealership.

A lot of 'em git away with it 'cause they can - they're the only game in town. I'd at least write a letter to Triumph and tell 'em about your experience.

Frankly, your mechanic has a point: changing the oil is not a substitute for checking the oil level; if you were very low, that could well have caused the problem. I think by not reporting the low oil situation to Triumph, your mechanic is doing you a huge favor.

At the same time, it sounds like the dealer is not as responsive as he should be.

I think you should take the good (your mechanic) with the bad (your dealer), be patient, and wait for something in the engine to really give up, then get a new motor under warranty.

Ok I can really sympathize with you here, i'm knda going through something similar. My b!tch is not with Triumph though, it's not their fault- it's the dealer. IMO Triumph dealers have it easy, let's face it where else are you going to go. I would have to go to Pocatello ID for the next closest Dealer. (600 miles or so) I make an appointment to have my fork seals replaced two weeks in advance of the service date. Now I used to be a service writer and when I scheduled a know repair (ie if I knew we eould be repalcing brakes) I would make sure to have those parts in stock. I get there and they take apart my bike only to find out that they don'e have the seals in stock, 3-5 business days. They expected to keep my bike this whole time as well. I had them put it back togethter and fill the oil. They tell me they'll call me when the parts get in. 3-weeks later I call down and imagine that -they just came in. Saturdays at the dealership they don't take appointments, first come first serve. So I bundle up and get there 5 min before they open... 1st in line. About 1 1/2 hours later I get the "hey Joel we've gotta problem" I taken to my bike that and explained that when Igor the tech was putting the fork tube back together the dampening rod "cracked" and broke. HMMM i'm thinking, sounds more like YOUR problem and not MINE. Aparently they thought the same, I was told it would be covered. They order the part and I wait. I was fortunate enough to get a loaner bike. A 2004 or 2005 Bonneville, not a bad bike--No speed triple however. A week goes by and I call down. "Brad" ( name changed to protect the STUPID ) doesn't know whats going on and says he'll call me back. The next day I call and talk to Brad again, still doesn't know whats going on and gets the smart one. I'm told taht the part they ordered is un-orderable (***) and they had to order a new fork tube 3-5 days. Today was 7 days. Minus two for the weekend- 5 days. NO word as of yet.
We can only hope that Triumph will continue to grow, the competitve nature of business will force these dealers to treat us right and get stuff done. I considered a Bonneville for my wife, but I wouldn't buy one just because I don't want to have to deal wilth the dealer anymore. No fault to Triumph at all. The funny thing is--- HD dealers are even worse-- and they're in America!
I like the two Triumphs that i've ridden, I don't have a problem with the bikes Triumph builds, just the A$$ hats I have to take it to for service.
There- that was about $200 worth of my .02

TO be fair--- I am being taken care of by the dealer, they are just grossly ineffecient in customer service. Yeah they gave me a Bonneville-- THanks, now my a$$ hurts every time I try to ride it longer than two hours. But it would be better than riding a bus.
I've got weeks to days before the snow hits, I want to ride speedy before it's too late!
