There was a planned RAT ride scheduled for Sunday just past but due to bad organisation (it happened to be the football grand final weekend), everyone pulled out and the ride was rescheduled for another day, except for two willing riders. Yes Sparti & Legman soldiered on and this is their tale.
Well its spring here in Victoria Australia and Sunday just past was a perfect example of it. Legman and myself decided to hit the road and have a good time while at it. The planned trip for the RAT ride was to a place called Tarwin Lower. That still ended up being our lunch destination but Legman added a few extra twist and turns in to the day.
Just so everyone is on the same page let’s start with a geography lesson.
Legman and my good self live in Victoria Australia. Our trip took us to the bottom right hand corner of the state and mainland Australia. On a map of Aus you will see that the southern most point is a national park called Wilsons Promontory, we were playing just to the left of that area.
The itinerary for the trip was…
Tooradin,
Lang lang,
Nyora,
Poowong,
Loch,
Korumburra,
Kongwak,
Inverloch,
Tarwin Lower,
Walkerville,
Fish Creek,
Foster,
Fish Creek,
Meeniyan,
Leongatha,
Korumburra,
Lang Lang,
Tooradin.
Being that I live one hours ride from Legman we decided to meet at a café in Tooradin. Well as soon as I pulled up along side Legman’s black Speedy two other riders (who were following me for the last 30k’s) decide to come on over to ogle the speedy’s and proceed to tell us about the Triumphs they rode in their day. It wasn’t long before the BS meter started bouncing off the right hand side of the gauge with all their stories from times past. Legman picked up on the best phopar when one of the guys started to tell us about this crash he had when he was 16 years old on his brand new 1000cc Norton. HELLO! Norton never made a 1000cc bike. Anyway we politely chatted on for a few mins then decided to start our ride.
Not a cloud in the sky but billions of bugs instead. Yes it was a case of what part of the visor didn’t have bug intestines splattered across it. We had to stop what seemed like every 20 mins to wash the visors. I also managed to get a wasp inside my helmet while doing 120kph.
The trip to our lunch destination was fantastic. Twisting, winding roads cutting through rolling green hills. After lunch at the local pub we popped on across to the coast to Waratah Bay, which is across from Wilsons Promontory. The roads there changed to coastal hillside roads cutting through bush & overlooking the bay (pics below). We decided to take a few pics of one corner and then decided to get some action shots for you guys. Lets just say the whole day could have gone pear shaped for both legs and myself. Both of us, in our attempt to get some serious lean angle for the camera lost the back end big time on some gravel that had drifted on to the road from the viewing point on the corner. Hence the pics below are not that spectacular. I lost my bottle to push it any further and Legman’s last remaining follicle went grey and fell out.
Apart from the bikes sliding from under us on that corner and swerving around an echidna (Aussie Porcupine) we had a trouble free day.
I hope I didn’t bore you too much and hope you enjoy these pics

This is over looking Waratah Bay. What can i say "wish you were here". Notice all the gravel on that corner? That stuff was nearly our undoing in our attempt to please you with a good pic.
It's a well known fact that Australia has 8 of the 10 most dangerous snakes in the world. I don't know what Legman had in his hands but it wasn't one of them.
Me just after my gravel slide
Legamn just after his gravel slide
