So I have owned my '03 Speed Triple for about a year now and I love it. Never owned a sport bike before and this one puts a giant grin on my face. That said the factory map is ***** and my bike came with (thanks 97TB!) an aftermarket pipe which is not currently on the bike. Time to change the map.

So on to my question - is there anywhere to buy a tuneboy for anything resembling a discount? At current exchange rates it sells for roughly $400 plus shipping. A price which hasn't moved in the past year (other than for curreny fluctations) Power Commanders (which I understand from this site are inferior products) can be had for around $270 on ebay.

Anyone have any thoughts? Do I just have to suck it up and drop the extra cash?

I found that it was cheapest to buy direct from Tuneboy/au. I think I paid 349.00, but I think the price went up because of the new USB cable.

I got mine from newspeed3.com

If I remember correctly it was slightly cheaper there than right from tuneboy.

Newspeed3.com has it for $390. Not trying to come across like a whiny cheapskate but its nearly twice the price of the power commander. I guess if the market bears the price....

Derby,
What exactly do you want?
If you want to just adjust fuel by emmulating the ECU, get the PC III and the O2 bypass module.

If you want to actually adjust:
the fuel and timing in each cylinder,
the rpm limit,
the idle speed,
the speedo calibration,
the priming pulse,
run diagnostics on the sensors,
and log sensor data,
Then get the Tuneboy.

If you want others to dyno tune your bike for you, you are probably better off with the PC III.

The choice is yours.

Hey Derby, if you are lucky and have a friend like Dev living close by(like me) with a laptop set up with a Tuneboy program, you can buy a key from Tuneboy for your ECU for $150 USD and your friend can load any program or set any parameter you want in a matter of minutes. It changes the ECU program and I will tell you it does WORK! My bike is a torque monster after we did a few mods and loaded most of the regular dyno Tuneboy program for the S-3. Tuneboy is really the best way to do any serious tuning.
I hope to get the full program and a laptop ASAP (my cage blew up so I am a few months away)

For the reasons you listed Devious as well as others - I am getting the tuneboy. I was just trying to save some cash when buying it. How does a product that has been on the market for a few years go up in price? for the addition of a cable? That's all I'm saying.

The time it takes to rework the program for new ECU's like the Keihin units and others, as well as the cost for the new USB cable, is worth something don't you think?

I have software to tune several different car ECUs, it costs more than double what Tuneboy does.

Actually I don't. Cables are fairly inexpensive. How much does it cost, retail, to add a new usb cable to a peripheral for your computer - $10? In addition, my bike is nearly 4 years old (by model year) and the technology inside it is btw 5 and 6 years old. The updated version of the tuneboy is not developed for my bike - its for the new bikes. Why not create two version - one for the earlier series and one for the newer bikes? Would you pay more for tires that were developed 3 years ago than you would 3 years ago? A Helmet? Air Filters? I applaud tuneboy for creating what appears to be an excellent product and I will ultimately buy one. I am just one of those motorcycles owners without unlimited resources who waits for sales and the prices of items to eventually come down. For example I just put michelin pilot powers on my bike - shopped around, did my homework and found the dealer with the best price. I came to this board to discuss motorcycles, not debate economics, so let's not continue this debate any futher. Thank you to those who posted the newspeed3 link. I will keep my eye out.
