If the pics are in old posts they might not be hosted any more. To test that theory, right click your mouse on the picture and choose "properties". Then copy the URL address and paste it in a new browser window to see if it is still online.
With some browsers, you may also have the option to right click your mouse over the image and choose "view picture" and then have it load.
If that doesn't work you might want to check you browser security levels (in the option menu). If it's super strict it might be blocking some images based on something stupid and if you make them less strict it might help.
If that doesn't work, get rid of your DSL...just kidding.
Those are my only suggestions. I'm no computer wiz either but gave it a shot.
