On the way to my morning class today, I learned the importance of a full face helmet with a good face shield. I was doing sixty on a road about a mile from my house, and a ***** robin flew in front of me! I ducked, but not low enough, it caught me right in the middle of my shield! There was an explosion of feathers, my head was knocked back a bit, and I had bird blood all over my shield blocking my view. I made it to campus safely, though a bit shaken up, to find my class was cancelled...... Good way to start a day.

Man, that's some scary***** when that happens. Glad you came through it allright.

I almost caught a Grackle at about 150 on my Honda. I don't think I would have fared as well as you did. You must be living right.

Very common around here. 12 to 18 inches long. Not something you want to hit while riding.

A mate of mine was riding to his work out in the remote goldfields of Western Australia when he saw the familiar shape of a dead kangaroo in the middle of the road. He veered around this big bloated stinking Aussie icon when a feasting wedge-tail eagle emerged from the other side. It lifted off slowly and Matt copped it full blast in the chest. These birds are turkey-sized and very nearly had him off on his puckering a$$. Apparently he was able to deflect it aside and all was well. I shudder when I think of those nasty talons and what they could have done.
I have only had a plastic coke crate bounce off a truck and scrape across my helmet. That was crazy, cos I saw it bouncing 100 yards in front of me and b4 I knew it I was in line for a headache. Might've been speeding that day!

The other day on the M25 I saw a batch (about 3) of televisions fall off some dimwits 1/2 truck at about 50mph.

The made some mighty explosions as they smashed into thousands of bits and one car copped one straight in it's grill.

Lucky no bikes were around.

I had a close call with a wedge tailed eagle the other week and got a good close up of those claws, they are huge. On the same ride saw a goanna sunning himself on the road. I also found a dead bird on the swingarm of the XT600 I had.

Not long after I bought my bike, I was at the dealership picking up some riding gear and talking to the salesman I bought my bike from. Out of the blue, he told me to be careful out there, and that freaky things can happen. I asked him what he was talking about. Apparently, just a few days prior to my visit, annother S3 owner was shooting down a backroad in the 60- 70 mph range when a Red Tailed Hawk flew directly into his path at head level. Scraped him right off his new bike, which took a ghost ride about 100 yards down the road. He was fully geared up so he was apparently alright, but that's scary stuff.

Glad to hear you are OK.

A couple of years ago I was riding with a friend in the early summer evening and hit two bats about 5 miles apart on the same stretch of road. My friend nearly fell off his bike laughing. He still calls me "bat man" from time to time.
