*****... my baby is only 3 months old and the pipe has blocked. There's a hell of a vacuum developing in the tank; my question is... do I have to remove the tank to clear it or can I just drain it and get access to the tube from below?

Cheers all.

Look for the little black "in line" check valve in the cluster of vent hoses on the left side.

Make sure it is vertical, If that doesn't fix it.... remove it!

Several of us have had Tank vacuum problems due to this.

Cheers hairball - I took a look at that, it was in the correct position, but when I took it off the top section of tube I could not blow through it. You think that this is where the blockage is likely to be? Also - if I blow through it with compressed air will this cause any problems to the unit?

If you blow down through the top of the hose, It should "NOT" flow, If you suck in it should flow, If it doesn't, That will be your problem.

It is meant to be a tip over switch to prevent fuel from spilling in case the bike is on its side.

If you have removed your tank, It is real easy to mix the hoses, If you do remove the tank, Mark one of the hoses and connection

Thanks again mate - I'll take a look and see if I can shift the offending bit of ***** causing the problem. :-D

Am out on an early morning ride tomorrow though - so I guess I'll just have to keep opening the tank cap and let some air in from time to time.

I've never had a vacuum problem with my 06 that I got a year ago August, until the last time I filled it up and the gas cap wouldn't open. I really pulled at it and sure enough- massive suction.

I'll have to check that valve also. I've never taken the tank off btw...

I took the valve off and hey - it was blocked. Did 170 miles of twisties today all around North Wales and not a hint of vacuum. The valve is now working again though - it's basically like a marble in a pipe - after not using the bike for 3 weeks due to heavy rain something (probably a gummy residue from evaporated petrol) had stuck the valve in the wrong position. Giving it a ***** good shake got it rattling and working again. I reckon flushing with a little solvent would help especially if the bike has been standing.

At least there is no need to take the tank off - the hose is one of the ones that hangs down the left side.

So - if in doubt - shake it like a British nanny. :-D

Rubbus - no need to take the tank off - the valve is in the cluster of hoses on the left hand side of bike.
