Can anyone tell me how many chain links i will need for a 18t/45t sprocket setup?

I know the sprocket subject has been done to death but i could not find any info on the exact length of chain for the above configuration.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks for that Sp3 but I'm more confused now though as I've just used the calculator on Sprocket Specialists website ( LINK ) and after adding all the data they tell me i need 212 links. :???:

Most probably your stock chain (of 106 links) will be just right. If you want to play it safe you can count the links on the stock chain and get one with 1 (male+female) link extra.

Or go the normal route: get a chain with generous extra and cut it down to size at home. You will need to rivet a new connecting link on the chain anyway, so cutting a few links off first won't really add to your work.

I believe someone had posted that you only need to add one link to get it to work properly.

I would go that route.

I don't know what they changed in the drive, but my stock chain was 108 links. I added 2 so that I could put on a 19T for longer trips. No way you need 212 links! Chains usually come with 120 or so links, so just install 110, and if that is too long, cut it down to 108 or whatever you need.

to find the length you can use this formula.

(2nd)sprocket- Center To center x2

(1st)add both sprocket diameter together (< "measure to the grove"
"NOT OD" then x 1.57 (half of PI) that will give you length in
inches (to put into mm x by 25.4)

Just as a 2nd check.
