I got to take part in something great today. A local Soldier was recently killed in Iraq. From what I learned his Humvee was hit bt a roadside bomb and put on it's side. After the bomb went off they were ambushed. He was shot and killed while trying to right the vehicle.
There have not been alot of casualties in the war from my area. Today he was buried and I was able to help with the procession. As a Motor Officer we led the procession and blocked intersections as we drove approx. 20 miles from the mortuary to his church and another 20 miles to the cemetary. It was one of the neatest things i've been able to do yet and probably the neatest i'll ever do (god forbid we have to bury another soldier or fellow cop)
Have any of you heard of the Patriot Guard? They're a group of mostly harley riders that surround the family and block any protesters from disrupting the funeral. They were there in full force, I diddn't see any protesters though. I just wondered if any of you had heard of htem or were members. Like I said they're mostly Harley Riders and most know how they are- if it isn't a Harley, it's not worth riding, but there were some Gixxers in it too - Red White and Blue, they looked good.
To any service men or women on the post, thanks for everything you do.

Yep, Great group. I've been on 2 "missions" with them in NC and SC. I respect what they do and their mission statement. I am sad to say that I am going on a mission this Monday to honor Cpl. David Weimortz and next Saturday to honor LCpl. Cliff Golla.

So, on that note, here's a heart felt thank you to all our service men & women and all veterans who have kept and keep me free.

THANK YOU!!!!!

Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement

The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.

We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a "hawk" or a "dove". It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is. You don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.

Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives.

1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.

2. Shield the mourning family and friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.

We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.

Whether you are republican or democrat, conservative or liberal or moderate, buy into it or not, whatever, you cannot consider yourself a human if this does'nt touch you in some way. These kids, and most are, are putting there life on the line, right or wrong, deserve our deepest respect. They have mine. As far as protestors go, search the archives of the Flint Journal.com, the local paper from early summer this year. The protestors are from some whack job fringe group out west that believes god is punishing the U.S. military and allowing their deaths because of gay marriage or some such *****. They travel the country to various military funerals of fallen soldiers and hold up signs that say things like (god hates you). They did it here 2 or 3 times here this past summer. A law was passed in short order that keeps them at a minimum of 5oo yards away. Before the law was passed, the bikers were standing between the idiots and the familys attending the funeral so they would'nt have to see that. Michigan state police were between the bikers and the protestors to keep the whack jobs from being anihilated,(sp). Anyway, every time the nuts would start yelling, the bikers would start revving thier engines so the familys would'nt have to here that stuff. It was surreal to say the least. I guess a group was formed to follow the nuts around the country. God bless them.
