hello all,

i ordered a set of bridestone battleaxe bt020's and got home yesterday to realize the dealer had put a bt020 on the rear and a bt056 on the front...without telling me.

i'm interested in any feedback about bridgestone bt056's in general, in comparison to bt020's, and opinions about this set up in specific (bt020 on rear, bt056 on back).

thanks!

barrie

Go back and tell them to put a BT020 on front.

tee-dub...not that simple > i travelled a long way to get serviced and there's some other issues i won't go into. you are correct, but at this point, forewarned is forearmed...i'm really looking for insight about the tire or a comparison between the two. best, barrie.

Two different tires you should have the same tire front
and back+ the bt56 is Z rated and bt020 is W speed rated.
(I would change it) The carcass is also different.
Have them order the tire and put it on when you get there. :???:

My bike came new in '01 with BT 56's That is a good tire, but not what you ordered. I would remove the wheel, take it back and have them replace with the correct tire. Sheet like that pisses me off. The 56 is propably dry rotted too, as that is an old design.

Well, I have options regarding how I handle it...but really, i want to be forearmed by truly understanding the issue. the dealer's initial response was "the bt056 is a better tire anyway, so you're good". hmmm...really? i trust you guys more than the dealer.

oh by the way, both the bt020 and bt056 are z-rated (to the kind poster above).

The BT56 was the OE tyre and as someone has already pointed out, is now discontinued and as such any still lying around must be considered old stock. Due to this, questions have to be asked about it's long term stability.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether the dealer says the BT56 is better than the BT020 - you ordered BT020s front and rear and that's what they should have fitted, end of story.....

It's their screwup and they should sort it at their expense.

bob955i > well said and thanks. also, thanks to all of you. interesting to me is that the bt56 is a sport tire and the bt020 is a sport touring. harder tire in back and softer tire in front. barrie.

No problem Barrie :upthumb:

FWIW I currently have BT020s on my S3 - they're OK but if memory serves me correctly, the OE BT56s that were on the bike when I got it new, seemed a bit better in the wet.

So the dealer MAY be right in some respects, maybe the BT56 was/is better than the BT020 in certain conditions, but to fit an now old-stock BT56, probably because he doesn't have a front 020 in stock, just isn't good enough.

Especially after you as the customer, specified exactly what tyre combination you wanted.

It is possible to mix tyres but you have to be careful about what combination you fit together - you can't just use any old thing that you happen to have lying around like what seems to have happened here.
