Another thing I saw at Port Macquarie was a Rocket wearing a car tyre. Apparently they work fine by "flexing" the sidewalls in corners and giving a decent contact patch. They are underinflated to allow this to happen The main trouble is in a straight line where you apparently need to actually push the bars to keep it going in a straight line :hihi: I wonder what insurance companies would make of it, and all to save a few $$ Shiver has actually followed this bike and reckons it seems to work ok....... Not my idea of fun

That's messed up. It harkens back to the days when HDs used to spoon on the same rubber as VW Beetles.

It works a treat guys, I followed Nugget (The guy with the car tyre on) up some twisties and a decent mountain climb, theres was no look of uneasiness...

Plus the metzeler rear to put on our rockets is $400+(I had 800 but woohoo just found cheapies) and only gets around 4000kms every change (Perhaps it would get more if we all stopped dragging of the sporties at the lights)

That's a no-brainer, you can't put a square peg in a round hole and only a moron would put automobile tires on a bike.
Car tires are shaped flat across the tread because they need to stay flat in order to maintain grip in the corners. Motorcycle tires on the other hand are round because they need to lean from side to side to maintain grip in the corners.

Psydone, a car tyre will only work to a point. The handling of the Speed Triple would never allow the fitting of a car tyre. The Rocket does not handle anywhere close to a Speed Triple. Thats why we bought em :-D You should know that...

Big diff between "works" and function... Again, I still wonder the wisdom of some to buy a bike they are either incapable of affording, or just cheap when it comes to basics. If the only reason to put a car tire on ANY motorcycle is to save money, (none other I can think of) it's just stupid. There is no way that bike handles as it should. And if it is required to run the thing at low pressue to allow the side wall to flex to get corner traction, the tire is put under load it is not designed to carry... simple...

Some people kids... just MNSHO
