The speedo drive is the most complex part - 01- is mechanical & 02+ is electronic. The mechanical speedo drive is on the right fork leg side of the wheel, while the electronic drive is on left side. The axle size is different so you would need a custom set of insert spacers to sleeve the OEM right side spacer & speedo drive from an 02+ onto your larger axle.
I don't know exactly how the electronic drive from the 02+ interfaces with the wheel - there may be additional parts needed for the left side that you would need from an 02+. Worst case you could swap out the entire wheel, axle, drive & spacers from later model but you would still need some spacer bushes for the fork legs.
I also can't speak for the connectors - there may be some differences, especially with the addition of the speedo drive. As - I really don't know without the benefit of seeing both manuals. But should do-able even if not a direct plug-in.

An 05+ model has the speedo drive sensor from the transmission I believe which will be a different ratio so that is a much more challenging conversion.

I'm considering just replacing the mechanical speedo in the current cluster with an electronic one - this looks to be a close fit.

Procycle Gauge Technical Details

I'm going to try using a Veypor Hall Sensor & Harness as the drive sensor for it. The nice thing about that gauge is it calibrates to just about any input signal.
Can't validate that as haven't purchased yet but it looks promising. It's only $40. It looks an easier & cheaper approach than adapting the speedo drive from the 02+ but that is also a possibility with the after-market gauge.
