Well, since Limey got his spiffy new squidpipes, I offered to take them ol' muddy TORS offa his hands (gives a whole new meaning to "off road").

Now, it may be some time, up to a week, between when I git 'em an' when I can get the remap done, so I was wonderin' if I put 'em on straightaway an' rode around with the stock map, would that cause any problems? On accounta you KNOW I ain't gonna be able to leave well enough alone when they git here.

Anybody runnin' 'em with the stock FI?

I did run the TORs with the stock map for a day. The bike will run like ***** and backfire like crazy, especially on low revs and closed throttle.

So sooner you get the mapping done, the better as excessive backfiring is never a too good thing for an engine. At the mildest the backfiring might blow one of the rubber intake manifold thingies off enough to get an air leak in.

Good fun, scaring the false teeth off grannies on pedestrian crossings, but you know the explosions won't do yer bike no good on the long run.

Not TORs but open cans with stock map and it runs just fine. Slight popping but that is just cool. No shotgun blasts anyway.

Interesting this was brought up:

On a Kawasaki 636, if you run open pipes the power disappears. It feels like a 250 and is very noticeable.

Wouldn't something similar happen with better flowing pipes on the S3?

I have Arrows with the stock map, but I can't notice a difference. Was there one? Who knows.

With my Arrows and stock map the bike felt slightly more powerful than stock. With my Power Commander and a new map it feels much more powerfull.

Mine popped a little with the stock map and TORS, but it wasn't >that< bad. Then the dealer put in the 2005 map without realizing my S3 was a 2006 and it REALLY popped! I had to turn right around and get the correct one in and now it is great.

I rode with the pipes for 2 days before getting the map. Back fired like all hell when I dropped the throttle but no other problems. No more power than stock though I don't think. Minimise the time between fitting/mapping IMO. You'll see a BIG difference once you get the map dialled in though....

:???: Why would there be a diffrence? ... New oil cooler is smaller, Diffrent colors...

But is there a diffrent ignition, or injection system?

Not sure why there would be a difference, but there sure was. Unless he was BSing.

I am going in for a re-map to try and fix my cold starting issue, I will ask.
