When CB wants his ride to be a couple of pounds lighter he just goes out in his wife-beater tee shirt, flip-flops and half-shell.

Great write up and pictures.

This is another genuine tech how-to that deserves its own section.

T.O.G. how far are you from Jax??

TrackerOldGuy and Chinookmark:

Thanks for the info. on the issue. As I am new to Triples, I think I'll leave my SAI on for awhile. I'm still learning all the fun with stock and not ready for a PC or Tuneboy just yet, but I can definately see it in the future.

At 250 pounds, I can use all the weight loss available! My friends say I look like an ape on a tricycle.

How do you get around the CEL coming on after you've unplugged the SAI unit? Why the wideband O2 sensor and not the eliminator that the Power Commander comes with? What is the benefit of the wideband sensor?

JonesW, I am 90 miles from JAX.
Tee Dub, the PC III fools the ECM so the ECL doesn't come on. I wasn't there for the Dyno run ( see thread " A Corporate Letter"), but the stock o2 sensor only measures whether things are out of range, only by a relative small variance and only to comply with the stock A/F map. The wide band sensor and custom map allow precise A/F tuning for better running. After the Dyno the stock o2 is permanently disconnected and the PC III fools the ECU that
an o2 sensor is there and loves the A/F ratio :-D

secondary air injection is simply another plauge within emissions standards...

its really quite rediculous and i personally find it useless...

The wideband O2 sensor is the dyno probe they stick in your tailpipe to measure air/fuel ratio during tuning. Nothing to do with the O2 sensor on your bike.

Gotcha. But, how does the Power Commander keep the CEL from coming on after removing the SAI? I have a Power Commander on my bike, is there anything I have to do special to avoid the check engine light if I remove the SAI, or do you have to have a "Non SAI" tune loaded into the stock CPU?

You have to download a non SAI tune if you want to junk your SAI hardware without getting an ECU error.

While I like the idea of cleaning it up and keeping it simple, my duct tape over the SAI hole in the airbox seems to be working fine too.
