I'm trying to decide on a bike that is good all around. I love aggressive looking bikes and the Speed Triple is one of them.

How are they for touring? I really want something I can ride for 2-400 mile and not feel to torn up. But also be able to pull all the bags off and do twisties all day long. I'm not a big guy... 5'5" @ 170lbs. and it seems I don't suffer from cramping and such as much as others.

Are there any real windscreens for it? I'm not talking about that bit of plastic flyscreen either. I can't imagine that being anything more than decoration. I mean something with a bit more substance. If not then I guess I'll have to fabricate one if I can.

I did see a guy on Food Network ride one across the US. The show was Feasting on Asphalt. Great show by the way if you want to find awesome places to eat while on the road.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Speed triple is as far from touring bike as a bike can be. You'll need to do some serious modding to make it happen. But the thing is, it's not a speed triple after that anymore. Just some weird and ugly mutation

This topic comes up on a regular basis.

I like to tour, but I don't want to own a touring bike, so I tour on my triple. check out this thread:

Touring on the S3

This next thread is the original thread posted by Crudmop

Touring Test

Proteus, don't be put off touring just because it doesn't look like a tourer.

Proteus, they are fine for touring within reason. I have done 700 kilometre days no problem. You'll be fine + once you get to the twisties you can have a ball. I'm setting off on friday to Port Macquarie and will probably do 2,000 K's by Sunday. I'm in my 40's, overweight and 6 foot! Stop being a wuss and buy it :-D

You can tour on an S3. You just have to be creative in your luggage loading. I use the Triumph tank bag, and a Luggage Locker tailpack. The newer S3's don't look as easy to attach bags to, though.

Hi - I just completed 1965 miles uk - austria and back in 8 days, 2 up and no real probs. Bit of wind blast (felt like a nodding dog), but we averaged between 85 and 95 / upto 120 on motorways and was fine. Bendy twisties were a real blast and only nearly stacked it once!!
I'm 5' 7" (just) and 160lb (plus wife behind) - so I think you can tour on an s3 pretty ok - not so comfy as a pan european or something similar, back then that's nearly a car anyway!!
Cheers,

DoctorW. :chug:

Funny thing,
I let Sprint ST go because I don't tour so much any more and wanted
something more 'single' con cojones. I you have to carry so much with as
in the pic of the yeollow S3, you really love this thing which is nice!
(though you need a camel)
