Help,

I'm having a re-occurring problem with my fuel injection system. This season my S3 started sputtering at around 3000 rpm. I had the stock 03 mapping replaced with an updated mapping from Triumph. The problem continued. My dealer then put the off road mapping in. Everything is still stock including the pipe. The problem went away for about a month. This morning after a 300km ride the S3 was sputtering in first gear as soon as I started to ride away from a stop. One time it was so bad I gave it some throttle to prevent stalling and the front end started to come up. I'm taking the bike back to the dealer again. Has anyone had this happen? Can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks in advance.

It's not entirely clear that you are.

One thing that is clear: it's not a faulty map. The only reason the off-road map appeared to do anything is because it allowed for a richer mixture that temporarily whitewashed the REAL problem. The real problem--whatever it is--is continuing to get worse.

Your dealer needs to reload the correct map for your pipes, then start some serious diagnostic work. He should be looking for bad sensors, air leaks, throttle body imbalance...all the usual suspects.

Agreed w/ Diego. Throttle bodies may need balanced & synched, and check out the plugs - especially the one on the sidestand side of the bike (it's notorious for collecting water after a wash or riding in the rain, leading to fouling).

I agree that blindly changing the map on a stock engine that ran fine before is no way to fix the problem. Something else is going bad in the air, fuel or ignition circuits. Reset to the correct map and check the ECU for error codes first. I would expect it is not ignition related since the remap temporarily cleared things up. However, new plugs are a cheap replacement so might be worthwhile changing just to eliminate them as a possible cause.

Thanks for the info. I suspected it was more than just the remap. My bike is going into the shop tomorrow. I'll advise what the outcome is.

If I may gamble on the outcome, i'd say one of the sensors is bad.

SAGEM probably used some frog sensors, I wasn't involved. The injectors are a quality item designed and made in the US of A.

Thanks for your help.

Here is what was done to fix the problem:

New spark plugs and synchronizing the throttle bodies. They also made sure there were no air leaks.

Thanks again for your help.
