I had a crankshaft burn up in my SV650 with Rotella-T synthetic in it. The engine had lots of modifications on it. Maybe it was the oil, maybe the lower end was overstressed. Who knows? But I won't be using it again.

I got a bunch of hits using the search function at the bottom of the "All Forums" page (the one for the TriumphRAT.net, not Google).
Thanks! I've never been down that far on the main forum page. I've tried the search function in the "Main Menu" on the left side of the page.

. Has anyone had clutch problems using this oil?
It's not clutch problems I'd be worried about. Oil of 10w-40 or higher does not contain the clutch damaging friction modifiers. I'd be concerned with the cams. Excessive cam wear has been noted in engines using auto oil, even Mobil 1 (automotive). Stick with a good bike oil.

Check out the study of motorcyle oils by Amsoil. (Of course theirs was the best.!)

I did a couple changes using Mobil 1 15/50 Gold Cap, but decided to switch to Red Line 15/50.

Triumph's 99 speed triple manual specifies----

Semi-Synthetic or Synthetic both 10w40

was wondering if I can go with the semi-synthetic and save maybe 50%....... but anyone know of any problems?

AMSOIl--have read alot about it, cant find it in stores in Melbourne.

amSOIL is like AMWAY or Tupperware or AVON , you need
to find a pusher, I mean dealer.

No problems with the blends...just look for JASO-MA oils. Motul, Bel-Ray, Motorex, and other motorcycle-industry brands all produce good synthetic blends.

I buy Amsoil straight from the factory. Read their motorcycle oil white paper. No other oil company will give you anything like that kind of technical data, they just blow smoke up your a$s.

FWIW, while Rotella is marketed to Diesel engines in the US, it is fully rated for Auto's that can use a 15w40 grade oil. Lots of German cars spec these weights. While I don't own a S3 *yet* I use either Rotella T or Delo 400 in my Hawk GT.
