I bought a used 03 speed triple. Used to start just fine but let it sit for three weeks while on vacation and now it takes some time to start cold (8-10 seconds on starter). Changed the battery but still not better. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Welcome, Birdman. sorry to hear about your problem starting your bike. Without knowing the history of your nice s3, it is kinda hard to pick a specific issue. start with the basics. u got a NEW battery, right. next plugs, rich or lean, air filter. etc.

Yeah,
I actually bought the bike used so not knowing the history will be something I'll have to contend with. It only had 2000 miles when I got it though. At any rate, I'll follow your directions and I'll start with the plugs next. Thanks for the advice... much appreciated.

i think this is a common s3 issue,,, instead of trying to get it in one shot,,, i find that if i hit the starter for 3-5 turns, then wait a sec, then hit it agian, it starts right up,, my guess is that it "primes" it.. but don't touch your throttle while starting, this is bad. good luck with your s3

Mine has always done that; especially when I roll her backwards for any distance (getting out of the garage for example) it sometimes takes a few more cranks to get going. It doesnt look very cool when in a crowd of fellow bikers who are prone to rib-jabbing.

Once up, running and warm I can shut her off and start her up quickly and without issue. Other bikes I've had just seem to spring to life in comparison with a single momentary push of the starter button.

Change the plugs. My bet is that'll do it.
