Speed Triple / Daytona differences

Hi all - new to this forum - have been searching all over the web for just such a place.

Have just got hold of a 1996 Speed Triple, or at lease that is what it looks a lot like. Further investigation has shown it to have a Daytona 900 motor, but it's fully kitted out with Speed Triple bodywork.

My question is, basically, what are the major differences between the two bikes. I have an oil cooler located below the radiator on a hanger which presumably once sat inside the Daytona fairing. Where does the Triple oil cooler sit?

In terms of performance I've read that the Daytona motor is simply a slightly tuned version of the Speed Triple's - does anyone know if this is correct.

Only had the bike a few weeks so just looking to nip any potential problems in the bud. Well pleased with the bike so far - the handling is a bit on the interesting side compared to japanese bikes I'm used to, but nothing like as bad as some people might suggest.

Any info / advice much appreciated.

At that stage (first generation) of their existence, the only real differences were cosmetic. The Daytona may be a hair more powerful specs sheet-wise but it doesn't seem it to me. Not sure about any higher-end components - brakes, shocks, etc.

Cheers - so what about the oil cooler on the original Speed Triple then? I've looked at stacks of photos on the web but can't see anything below the radiator - unless it's hiding behind the downpipes.

What's kind of confusing is that my cooler is mounted upside down - ie the Triumph writing is upside down.

They are on here as well as a few other forums. They have a couple 'frankenstein' triples built from Daytona 955i and miscelaneous speed triple parts.
